AIN'T SHE A BEAUTY INDEED!!!!! THE REINCARNATION OF THOR'S HAMMER

CR340-1.jpg

Quite a handsome rifle, Mike. I'll be looking forward to your reports of load development.

340 Weatherby Magnum
German Mark V receiver
26" #2 Krieger Stainless
No muzzle brake.
McMillian stock (Green)
Timney trigger
Talley bases and rings

I am not sure what glass, can't afford anything right now because I spent so much on the rifle that I will have to use a 4.5-14x40mm SF BDC BuckMaster that I have laying around.

I will be testing the 210gr Partition, 210gr Scirocco, 225gr AccuBond, 225gr North Fork, 250gr Partition, AccuBond, Sierra SBT and 240gr North Fork.

Very fine looking rifle you have there! I like the look of the blued action with a stainless barrel.

Yes, that is pretty cool indeed.

I had a Rem 700 that had a blued action and SS barrel. It happened on accident, a gs stipped the finish and realized the barrel was SS and it wouldn't take blueing, (back in the 70's) so I had a blued action and SS barrel.
That just looks COOL!!

Man, you are getting rid of your 338! Too bad, but I guess there is only space for one 338 cal in your safe eh! Good luck, hope you get what you need out of the Ruger. Seems like a great shooting rifle. Scotty

I need a good scope, so the 338Win Mag would only be a duplication of using a 338" diameter bullet. I have my 30-06, 340 and 358Win all giving a total spectrum of use on big game. The 338Win mag becomes redundant since it can not out perform the 340Wby. Anyway, I can only use one rifle at a time so I do not have any problem cutting ties with the 338Win mag. I really don't have a lot of funds at the moment that Nancy will let me use because we are tight and will be through the summer. Somethings got to go so I can afford reloading, and hunts next fall while having a good scope on my 340Wby. :)

Good enough! Seems like somebody will get a good rifle when they get that one. Can't have too good of a scope. Check out cameraland.com. They have some good prices on Zeiss Conquests, that were floor models. Might find something you like. Scotty

I really like how my 340Wby turned out. I am not a bench man but a hunter and I wanted a good looking medium bore rifle, chambered in a cartridge that had a lot of authority but would also allow me to build a rifle dedicated to the hunt. I am thinking of a Zeiss Conquest to put on it but I don't want a long heavy scope. I know most shooting in the field will be under 400 and maybe on occasion at 600yds. I like to get close but sometimes the terrain won't allow an approach. I feel a variable in the power range from 2-10 or 3-9 or even 1.5-6 power with 40mm or less is more than enough. In fact when I go to Africa again (Tanzania) if things shake out for me and also to Alaska maybe in 2011 that my company will pay for, I will want lots of eye relief and the ability to have quick acquisition of my target.
