CUSTOM 340WBY - IS FINISHED AND WILL SHIP SOON

Thats great! Haven't seen any pictures of your new rifle yet. Yeah, I would imagine a good Leupold VX3 3.5x10-40mm with the B&C reticle would get you to 600 yards pretty easily. I would think that would be a bullet proof combo also. I have one on my 270WSM and it is excellent (W/O B&C). Good luck. Scotty

beretzs, you need to look at the first page of this thread and you will see some pictures of my new rifle.

Sorry, I started at page II somehow. Wow, that is an incredible rifle Mike! I think you have a truly awesome rig in that rifle. Now, I know a VX3 would look great on it, with a Matte finish of course. Darn it, that is one slick looking rifle. Should be able to get some serious power out of that! Looks like a true hunting rifle. Any idea what it weighs bare? Scotty

Not sure of the weight yet. I have been using a friends 340Wby for the last week now developing loads to get a leg up on my custom. Fortunately he is letting me use his once fired brass to work with and he has been supplying the bullets and some powder.

The 340Wby can push:

1. The 200gr AccuBond at a Muzzle Velocity of 3225fps with a Muzzle Energy of 4620 ft. lbs.

2. The 200gr Hornady Spire Point at a Muzzle Velocity of 3221fps with a Muzzle Energy of 4607 ft. lbs.

3. The 225gr Barnes TSX and X and Hornady Spire Point at a Muzzle Velocity of 3001fps with a Muzzle Energy of 4499 ft. lbs.

4. The 250gr Nosler Partition at a Muzzle Velocity of 2941fps with a Muzzle Energy of 4801 ft. lbs.

a. The above is Weatherby ammo using Norma Powder.

5. The 240gr North Fork at a Muzzle Velocity of 3066fps with a Muzzle Energy of 5009 ft lbs.

6. The 250gr Nosler AccuBond at a Muzzle Velocity of 3032fps with a Muzzle Energy of 5103 ft. lbs.

7. The 250gr Nosler Partition and Seirra SBT at a Muzzle Velocity of 3041fps with a Muzzle Energy of 5133 ft. lbs.

a. The above North Fork handload was done by Russell and I loaded the AccuBond, Partition and Sierra SBT using IMR7828 and RL-25

His rifle is a sporter with wooden stock and 26" #2 moly chrome barrel. Groups are 1 3/4 to 1" so far. Recoil is not prohibitive at the bench.

Wow, those are incredible numbers! Can't see any reason to not use the 250gr AccuBond. You would have 270 trajectory and incredible power to spare. That is a power house in any respect. Hope yours does as well. Have you tried the 275gr Swifts? Those seem like they would be a true hammer and penetrate through an Abrams! Scotty

No need to go to the 270 unless I get lucky and can hunt something real big and dangerous up close. :)

POP, those are cool old data sheets, where did you come across them? It is pretty cool to look at the older stuff once in awhile. Scotty

POP, that is awesome, thank you so much man, that is cool indeed. :)

No sweat, had it since the 80's. Not the best powder for all the bees but will work for most.

I have a brand new scope plus some other stuff for the 338Win Mag. It is a Zeiss 3-9x40mm #4 cross hair mounted with Leupold PRW rings and bore sighted. Three boxes of new 340wby brass and some bullets.
