I have had a POP run QL - the SAAMI on the .303 British using a 215gr Woodleigh which was specifically designed for .303 British velocities as a comparison tool for load work. Then I used a velocity calculator to estimate reduced charges that are under any book load max charges to use for staring points with the following powders and the 215gr Woodleigh RN.

Thought about it and I want the 215gr for the close work I will do with my 303.

.303 British Loads for 215gr Woodleigh RN
(Note: I recommend the near max loads must be reduced by 5grs to start with in any .303 Enfield and start with the reduced loads found listed after the near max loads)

Powder: Charge: Velocity: Warning!

MRP 51.5 2519 Near Maximum ! (46grs 2283fps)

H4350 45.7 2447 Near Maximum ! (40.7grs 2205fps)

W-760 46.1 2444 Near Maximum ! (41.1grs 2204fps)

RL-17 44.4 2442 Near Maximum ! (39.4grs 2191fps)

RL-22 49.9 2442 Near Maximum ! (44.9grs 2225fps)

RL-19 48.2 2438 Near Maximum ! (43.2grs 2208fps)

IMR4350 45.1 2433 Near Maximum ! (40.1grs 2188fps)

H414 45.1 2418 Near Maximum ! (40.1grs 2174fps)

IMR4895 40.6 2404 Near Maximum ! (35.6grs 2127fps)

AA2495 38.9 2345 Near Maximum ! (33.9grs 2059fps)

Wow, that should be a sweet bullet in the 303! What a neat bullet and round for closer quarters type hunting. I imagine that would be one of them loads where you could literally eat right to the bullet hole, like old Elmer used to chant. Scotty

I've kind of half-heartedly thought about picking up one of the Ruger Number 1s in .303, and that bullet would certainly make it into a black timber elk hammer!

That 303 in a Number 1 or a 30-40 Krag in an 1895 Winchester would be pretty darn cool! Scotty

A 1B in .30-40 would be sweet, but I don't think Ruger ever did a run of them. I thought I read they did offer the Number 3 in the Krag.

I have seen a few 1895 Winchesters in 30-40 Krag but haven't seen the Krag in a Ruger. I would take the 95 in a heartbeat though. Teddy Roosevelt couldn't have been wrong! Scotty

Me too but I have overdone it with the #1's. Gotta slow down!

I am so glad that you are an honest man POP. You said, "Gotta slow down!" That means there could be more just not going to buy them as quickly as I did before. Sure glad you did not say, "Gotta stop buying # 1's", now that I would have had trouble believing. Just trying to help you out POP, you know, being an enabling friend.  If you get more than I do then it doesn't make my getting seem such a problem.

bullet when I was about 15 years old I spent Thanksgiving at my mother and step-father's house and they lived at St. Regis Montana which has some great whitetail hunting. I was missing out on going elk hunting with my father back home so my step-dad let me borrow his old 303 British and take it out. It had iron sights and I had never shot the thing. I went out and proceeded to shoot a nice fat doe at about 125 yards and was pretty darn proud of myself. It was a neat old rifle!

You know we are just a bunch of enablers on this site! Pathetic......

You meant to say a bunch of guys with "Pathos" (passion). I knew that is what you meant and just misspelled the word, that is OK, don't worry about it, because we all have so much on our minds when we get on this site.

Awesome POP, I wonder what is going on at Ruger. They have stopped making the standard # 1 model, go figure???????

I do not know. Maybe they did away with it so they can re-intro it and spike sales.
