I am going to embark on redoing my loading bench and want to build a "deluxe" setup with drawers, cabinets, nice wood, whole nine yards. Was wondering if anyone had any plans or pics of there setups to share.

This is my setup. No drawers in the bench, but cabinets hanging on the wall.

Here is my dream set up - not mine - but someday! 8)

Scott,

That is a great setup you have there. Man, I am envious! Congratulations on a great workspace.

You might consider going to a home depot or the like and buy some of their pre fab cabinets. I think Ikea sells premade, laminated butcher block tops, that would make a very nice top. You might even get one of them to print you up a drawing.

Not deluxe, but real good. I bought the bench at Home Depot. The cabinets to the left of it hold gunsmithing tools and fly tying gear as well as maps of places I like to hike & hunt. The two drawers in the steel bench hold reloading tools, and some primers.

Mike,
I wish it were mine. It is only a picture I copied off another forum - Just on my wish list.

Guy,
Your loading space looks very comfortable! I love that bear rug of yours - what a speciman.

Thanks. I like it in that little room. Probably a liberal's worst nightmare, an American male sitting there, slurping black coffee, listening to right-wing talk radio and handloading ammo...

I did not have room in the house, so I purchased a barn style 10x10 shed. I call it the shootin' shack.

Scott, I was wishing for you.

Guy, that looks quite compact and easy to work with.

runtohunt, that is really innovative. I like the idea a lot.

Here is mine. We just moved in in August and the basement is all mine ( well sort of)

I needed a reloading, tinkering room, and a place to showcase my mounts and stuff. We agreed to finish the basement with the mounts and room in mind. The only caveat my wife gave me was " It needs to look good like the rest of the house, not just a man cave".

Well boys and girls. Finally done.

Started around Christmas and between work and stuff, it took some time. Basically a 9 x 13 room, including the area under the stairs as a gun safe. Without the area under the stairs it is 9x9.

Here is day number 1. Starting to lay out the floor.

Here it is 7 days later all framed and electricity ran.

Here is the area that will be a hidden gun safe/ammo room.

main area for smithing and cleaning. I have since added a few more shelves.

Here is a pic of the case trimming station. I mounted it on the wall with those hidden screw attatchments. Here is where it sits when not in use.

And here it is down attatched to the bench ready to trim.

Here is the hidden door to the gun room. I was planning on using a Rixon Pivot Hinge, but I had to watch my costs, so the trim around the door pops off so the door can be open fully with no clearance issues. I drilled holes into the trim and through to the door, then I sunk nails the same size as the pilot hole, then cut off the nail heads, so the trim "sits" on the nails. Looks better in person. My FIL just saw it for the first time and didn't even realize it was a safe door. I installed an 8 inch bolt lock under the one shelf and reinforced the wall with solid 2x4's and steel plate. Then I made a positive stop behind the door with 3/4 inch weatherstrip so the door doesn't move at all when closed. It feels just like a wall.

And now open.

All in all I added up the reciepts and materials were just under 1600. And that included a new 6lb pancake compressor and air nailer. So materials were around 1300 give or take. Not bad considering safes can run upwards of 2k IMO. I used Rustoleum floor epoxy on the floor.

The rest of the basement is going to be a family room/TV area and all my mounts will be on display there. Guess it will be a family/man room!!

Wow! I'm truly impressed by your thoughtful layout. That is pretty cool. Great stuff. Man, I'm getting energised about working on my own workspace.

Pre 64,
You are a real planner and organizer, incredible layout. By the way, like the Golden eye mount too.

Don

Aren't there some reloading bench plans avail via the NRA or a handloader's association or something? I've seen them published - a nice sturdy bench...
