Does anyone else wish Nosler still made a 45-70 Partition. I would love them to reintroduce a bullet in the 350-380 grain weight. I'm shocked with all the marlins being sold they would discontinue the 45-70 bullet. just my 2 cents

The 458 cal 300 gr PP is an awesome bullet. I hope Nosler will continue to male limited runs.

I think that 300 gr Partition earned more respect than any other jacketed .45/70 & .450 Marlin bullet.

Heck, I wish Nosler still made 'em even though I sold my .45/70! It was quite possibly the perfect general purpose hunting bullet for the Marlin lever action.

As an alternative I'd recommend the 350 gr Swift A-Frame. One heck of a bullet itself. Expensive though...

Man, count me in on those guys that want the PT. I really would have no other reason to shoot anything else other than the PT if I knew there was a limitless supply. As of right now I have about 150 of them suckers and I will be using them sparingly till I can receive anymore of them. I love them, they are accurate and really penetrate.

I kinda think they would out penetrate the Swift. I can't confirm this, but I plan on trying it out. The PT will shed its front core and retain its 45 cal shank, where as the Swift will retain the large mushroom (and weight), but I think the broad front end will stop it before the PT stops.

Here is a picture of a PT that shot completely through a 12" diameter red pine tree. I found it on the ground on the far side (really lucky find). It weighs 250gr's. So in essence, it lost 50 gr's in transit. Now, this bullet was started at 2325FPS from my Guide Rifle, and the tree was at 100 yards.

It is also a very accurate bullet. It seems to hold MOA out to 300 yards at least. I had no issues shooting smallish leftover Halloween pumpkins at 300 yards.

Here is a 200 yard target. This was with a minimally worked load with H4198. Plus, I was shooting over a quad, so not exactly good bench conditions.

Here is my 300 yard target before I refined my zero. Again, I was very impressed and feel more than capable of killing any deer or larger that walks with this rifle out to 300 yards.

In short, I love that PT and I really would give up an organ to see them back in regular production. I figure even with their steep cost, I would still shoot at least 150 of them a year or so. I love the Guide Gun, and the PT makes it a very effective killer.

I am looking forward to comparing the PT, to the Swift, NF, Hardcast and some others, but I have a feeling the PT will come out on top of all but a large hardcast, and then, the trajectory advantage goes to the PT. Scotty

I have never even fired one from my 45/70's, but if they made them again I dang sure would be shooting them. After lots of reading about them they seem to be almost in a class by themselves for jacketed bullets in the 45/70 - 450 Marlin.

What's a 450 Marlin! Ha. Just kidding. Scotty

Scotty, it's the improved version of a 45/70, did you not know that? sarcasm turned off now

Improved. HMMMMMMM! Just kidding, I got a 45-70 at the time cause I got a great deal on it. It could have easily been the 450 Marlin. I am glad I got the 45-70 now though, lots more load data for it. Mild to wild and everything in between. Scotty

I have you covered for some in order to develop loads and hunt with buddy. I will share some of my stash with ya. Scotty

Good point. Forgot about that. I have a small stockpile and it hurts to shoot them at paper. Need to put them into some bone and flesh. Man. When does the Fall get here. I miss it already. Scotty

Might be able to do that if I can get a range day this week. Need to test out my 350gr loads. Scotty

Well I can't help with the walking but the shooting sounds good. Why the issues with walking?

Ooh, touching off warmish .45-70 loads with a tweaked back sounds like fun! (NOT!!)
