I'd like to teach my son how to "do his part" when shooting, and maybe dad could use a refresher too. What books/sites/resources do you guys recommend to help us help ourselves?
As far as "doing my part", I suggest joining the NRA. You may not believe in everything they do, but they are still fighting for our gun and hunting rights/privileges. I'm currently paying off my life member status.
This is very critical right now with the group of people running for President and the current regime in Congress.
Rich, you're absolutely right! That's why I joined last year at the local NRA banquet (although for some reason they don't push joining then). My dad is a life member but I just do 2 years at a time for now. We definitely need to keep an eye on Congress.
What I'm really looking for is shooting technique help. I'd like to improve myself and get my son before he can develop any bad habits.
Check you local cooperative extension office(4H) and see if they have a shooting sports program. If so, they might also have some good information for you to review.
Find a local gun club if you can. Its a place to shoot and the good ones are involved in good things in there community. Regardless of politics and affiation. Firearm safety instructors are volunteers, and its a great way to set a good example too. You dont need to be a professiona teacher. Check with your state department of natural resources. CL
