I need a new powder measure and I am thinking about getting a hornady lock n load powder measure. I already have a redding powder measure stand. Is there a bushing that will alow me to adapt the measure to the stand or do I need to get a different stand?
I don't know that the question is dumb. It is quite possible that by asking, someone may have the answer to your query. If there is not a common adapter, I would think that it is possible for a good machinist or craftsman to make one. Let us know what you find if no answer is posted here.
With the Hornady, you can probably get by with only the lock nut under the measure, as there is a substantial shoulder above the threads on mine. Of course, mine is pre-lock-n-load, and 20+yrs old, but it's got a wide shoulder and I just drop it into my powder measure bracket (Hornady's bracket) and tighten the lock ring from the bottom. I'm sure the Redding stand will work the same.
I use more than one powder-measure in my old RCBS stand, so I've always used a nut on top, a nut under-neath combination for consistancy. Old guys got old ways (GRINS).
The Lyman #55 Powder Measure stand is threaded for a 7/8-18 steel flanged bushing that has a 7/16's threaded steel drop tube hole through the center to mount a #55 Powder Measure on the stand. Other brands of stand may have different mounting dimensions.
