Elk bullet in 6.5x55 Swede

If you're confident in your Swede, pick a good bullet, work up a good, and go for it! I had been loading for a friends Ruger 77 in .35 Whelen. It shot lights out with 225 grain ABs out to 450 yards. With that load he had harvested deer, bear, and moose. He decided to make a guided elk hunt with some friends and they talked him into needing a MAGNUM, so he bought a 300 Win Mag. Since that time he has taken several head of elk and another moose, but none were shot at a ranges that would exceed what his Whelen would have done. If you know the rifle, the load, and your limitations, stick with it. Ask yourself, if I buy a MAGNUM am I going to be personally comfortable shooting beyond the 400 yard limitation that you've set for the Swede.

I’m pretty much a one rifle guy.

That’s why I use a .338 Win Mag. If it had been a .35 Whelen I wouldn’t have complained. I prefer bigger bullets and versatility. Never been a .30 caliber fan although they work for some people. It really doesn’t matter what your caliber/cartridge is if you know your rifle you can make it work.

I have some 140 partitions, I think they are seconds . Pm your address and I will ship them out if you need them. No sense in wasting an opportunity to harvest an elk.
I got home from deer camp and had a box awaiting wit these bullets thank you so much it was very generous of you!

We have to shoot monos here in Germany and I am about the biggest fan of the Nosler E-tip that there is, except of course for David! I’ve killed a pile of red deer and roe deer with them and they never fail to deliver. Reading through all of the posts I was itching to recommend the 120 E-tip but was glad to see that David beat me to it. It’s definitely worth your consideration.
V/R,
Joe
