Well boys I went to the range today to verify the 300 RUM for the upcoming Elk hunt in November.
The 200 AB printed 3" high @100 yards. Traveled to the Hunting Lease that gives me the ability to shoot 300 yards, set up a target fastened it to the only tree there, it's a clear cut area grown up with weeds. Was shooting prone from a Harris bi-pod,
first two were a little low, re-adjusted my position a little and my hold, nailed the bullseye then put one 1.5 " next to that one. This load really shoots for me. I'm so pleased and excited to get out there and hunt with this gun.

Side note: Upon taking the target away from the tree I noticed the four shots fired passed through this 5" tree at 300 yards. The 200 AccuBond is impressive, I'm sure it will have no problem going through an Elk at 300 yards plus!!!!

Certainly sounds as if the opportunity arises you are set. We're all pulling for you, Don.

Thanks Dr. Mike,
Switching to 200 Bullets from 180's made a big difference in this rifle, something I learned from the excellent members of this Forum. Many thanks to all who gave input back then. You guys ROCK!

I do like 200 grain pills for those big capacity thirty calibre cases.

Don,

Good luck buddy.
The rifle/load is there.

Thanks you guys,
Never have killed an Elk with this Gun only Mule Deer Buck, heck I haven't even had the opportunity to pull the trigger on an Elk, the reason I'm anxious to try out this load.

Previously I used 180 bullets on the Deer taken. I know the 200 AB will be up to the challenge if it arises.

I'm confident that with a .300 Rem Ultra Mag and 200 gr Accubonds, you've got a GREAT elk rifle.

Congratulations on getting the rifle tuned in.. Good luck in your upcoming hunt...

Thank you, most likely the hunt will be in snow. Hunting the 4th Season for Cows in Colorado, comes with the territory. But then I love it too.

I had a Mod 700 customized in 300 RUM for my Marine SIL for his return from his 2nd tour (2004) in Iraq ( I needed him to come home and give me grand babies! I got a fine 5yr old grand daughter now out of the deal , ha) I had worked up that same 200 AB bullet over a casefull of Retumbo. He later put a Husquema (sp?) dial a matic long range scope on it and last winter ( also a late cow elk hunt here in Utah) his buddy used it to make almost a 400 yard shot on a big cow. One and done! It blew right through and made a perfect kill. I personally have used 180s in 300 Winmags ( Barnes/Nosler) and I like the 200's in that bigger Rum case. I did, however, use the 180AB out of a 338 RUM on a big Aoudad around 250yds. It acted just like a Partition. Accubonds are really swell. Good luck on your hunt!

Preacher,
Thanks for the reply. The 180 AB out of that 338 RUM should really fly!! Nosler did well with the development of the AccuBond bullet. I'm going to try working with the 190 ABLR bullet over the winter, It looks interesting to me. My nephew just reported he took a 5-point Bull Elk in Colorado
with his 300 Win mag using the 190 ABLR moving 3150 fps. Shot him at 417 yards through the near side shoulder socket exiting the ribs, drop him in his tracks, He reported the lungs were shreaded and the shoulder socket was fragmented. Pretty impressive to me. Can't wait to see his pics of the bullet damage.

Any elk that walks away from that torment of terror is one you do not want to deal with! You've got an awesome elk setup. I guarantee any elk hit by that combo of yours has a better than good chance of keeling over right there! A better chance I'd bet than as your children being born naked!

Smoke a big one buddy!

300winmag,
Thanks buddy, yeah I would agree, my set up should be a real hammer on Elk. Hoping to hammer one this year, starting to get the hunting clothes and gear together for the trip now, getting excited.

Don

Good luck! I know you will do well with that combo. I'm another believer in the 300 RUM, 200gr AB, and Retumbo.

Woodycreek,
Thanks buddy, looks as if snow is in the picture where I'm hunting. They are getting some at 9,000 ft and above today from the weather alerts.

Don

Don,
No snow yet in Dillon, but it is predicted for this evening into tomorrow. Good luck on your hunt near Creede, beautiful country down there.

Bruce

Thanks Bruce,
Leaving for Colorado Sunday will not be long now.

Scotty,
Thank you, excited to see the Gang I'm hunting with again soon.
