End of seasons... What now?

My "big game" seasons ended yesterday with that doe hunt. I think most North American hunters are probably done, or nearly so, with their hunting seasons at this point.

What now?

For me - there is more upland bird hunting. I've got chukar, quail, and wild pheasant to Jan 18th. The pheasant club will have birds for hunting until well into March.

Coyote hunting in the winter is something I really enjoy, and haven't done enough of in recent years.

Still have a cougar tag, and the season runs in to April... :grin:

Never have shot a big cat, but keep hoping that one will answer my varmint call someday. Perhaps one has, and I just don't know it!

What are you up to, if your big game seasons have ended?

Still have one rifle to pillar bed and one to develop loads for. Neither one will take all winter I hope but will keep me busy for a few days. :lol:

We have a couple of late draw seasons left for cow Elk but I do not have a tag . I am hoping to get out at least once more for Pheasant & Partridge but it is not looking to promising at this time. I have been just relaxing as I had 3 50 hour work weeks running to Christmas took abit out of me but I have rebounded now .
The Coyote population truly needs to be thinned out in southern part of our province and my boys and I hope to start that in the next week or so and then there is Ice fishing as well.
I hope that everyone on the forum had a great fall hunting??

I'm all tagged out on big game...but still helping a couple of buddies polish off some caribou tags. Hunting for those will be pretty slow until late Feb or early Mar.

I'm pursuing small game and birds every weekend unless the wind is howling or it's -30F and usually setting up for a few stands calling while I'm at it. The grouse and ptarmigan action this year has been outstanding but calling fur has been really slow.

Hi Guy, I'm pretty much all tagged out for this year ..just got some touch ups with all the renovations done around here, maybe do a lot of plinking with the CZ .22 at the range just to keep my trigger finger working :wink: ..aside from that, just sit back and enjoy some wild game with the family, and go to work in the new year

We have some c'yote hunting to do, with the fresh snow on the ground. Put a different scope on the 22-250 and its beggin' to go.

Bird hunting was not very good, but later-on the club will release some birds, so we may try them out.

Ran acros't a fellow that needed to sell some reloading components, and I got 3 lbs. of RL-22 and several boxes of Nosler AB .270 bullets. Will do some more testing of the .270wsm in warmer weather.

And its about 100 days till turkey season opener!

Our Tennessee Gun season for deer ends this weekend. Got to move some tree stands around then help a friend remove some of his. After that planning on developing a 165 load for the 30-06 with 165 bullets after no success with 180's. Also want to hit the range with the 300 RUM to shoot 500 yards some more.

I am through for the year too Guy.

I got a Wheeler Level Level Level kit and have been leveling all of the off-center scopes on my bolt action rifles.

I have a Mauser .25-06 and a Savage 99 EG that need some minor wood work done.

Got a Rossi 62A .22 LR that I need to sight in, I think the front sight got bumped off center as it is hitting to the left slightly. Maybe more ammo and practice will tighten the "nut behind the bolt."

And of course the reloading projects and catching up on my Jack O'Connor books!

Don't worry Guy, you'll stay busy!!!

Our deer season doesn't end until Jan 31st. After that it's rest until March 15th opening of Turkey season.

Congratulations to all who have wild game to eat this season. I missed out entirely on the fall season as my group wasn't drawn for anything.

Javalina is coming up in February and here in AZ we are lucky to have this "big" game hunt to hold us over until spring. I sure do hope to get in more predator hunting and maybe a little bird work in before our busy season at work starts in February.

In the desert winter is the time to get out and about for desert camping, shooting and hunting. We develop loads and work on rifles in the summer when we "cave up" due to the heat.

Here in Michigan we usually have snow and I chase bunnies with my 28ga but there is no snow. So it will be skeet and sporting clays

Here in our neck of northern Idaho, we'll transition to coyote hunting, wolf hunting, and trapshooting. Actually spent yesterday running around the snow-covered hills of the Palouse looking for coyotes. Temps varied between 5 F above 0 and 5 F below. Found 1 coyote (no shot), quite a few deer, and saw more pheasant roosters than I've seen in years. The latter was pretty nice to see.

I've still got a deer tag to fill, our archery season doesn't end till Feb 7th and we have a muzzleloader season coming up too. I'll be coyote hunting after that. Also starting to look into a spring bear hunt.

I was planning a lynx hunt this coming month, but work has interfered with those plans. I still hope to do some wolfing in the coming several months. Black bear opens in April, and I will undoubtedly be going out to see if I can tag a good looking bruin. Hopefully I will draw grizzly. The population in our area is growing to the point that they are becoming a nuisance again.

Still have about a month of duck season.
With all the water from recent rains and a lack of birds as they are very scarce around here don't see any need to get up at 3:00 AM and go look at empty skies.
Goose season goes through the end of Jan and then conservation order for Snow geese starts.

The coyote population where we deer hunted in Ok this year needs thinning out.
After that, time to start breaking clays and catching crappie.
