I've now done quite a bit of shooting with IMR4166, IMR4451, and IMR4955 and compared them to their counterparts Varget, H4350 and H4831.
The 4166 and Varget were mostly in .308s... Varget meters better in a powder throw, but I had no issue getting perfectly good loads with 4166 on a trickler. I'd as happily shoot one as the other for loads I use an autocharger for.
IMR4451 and H4350... in my 6.5 I can't tell any difference in speed or group size. IMR 4451 gives single digit SDs though and I'll probably change over to it as I'm out of H4350 and have a couple cans of IMR4451 on the shelf.
IMR4955 and H4831. I think the 270WIN and 4831 go together like apple pie and vanilla ice cream...well, IMR4955 is ice cream with sprinkles on top. It is hands down better in my .270 than 4831 with the 145gr ELDX bullet. Faster and more accurate- 2950fps at 1/2MOA in my son's Tikka. I just can't ask for better than that. With 130gr bullets I can't say there's much different, but once you go to 145-150gr bullets the IMR4955 really shines.
A couple of things I can't comment on. The first is temp stability. None of these powders are very temp sensitive and although I've done a fair bit of shooting in cold weather, I've not chronographed enough to tell much more than it still shoots comparably.
The copper fouling eliminator... can't tell a bit. Of course, none of my rifles really foul much and I clean them often enough it never gets to be an issue. Not sure it does much at the volumes I shoot.
I haven't tried the slower versions as I don't really use them all that much, these three powders will cover about 99% of what I shoot anyway.

I finally got the Springfield-based 6.5-06 I built back in ‘17 shooting. Unfortunately the GB description of 1-in-9” twist hasn’t proven true so anything I’ve tried longer than a 100 GR TTSX patterns rather than groups.
The 100 GR TTSX load I settled on, however, is a max charge of 4955. It ought to be screaming along at 3400-ish so I’m looking forward to seeing how the whitetails like it this fall.
Love the rifle but disappointed to have essentially built a more complicated 25-06 so it’ll likely make a trip to Shaw for a SS 1-in-8” tube after the season.

Older forum, but I've found some promising loads with my 270 Winchester with 130 BTs and 7-08 Rem (SS pistol) with 4166. Anybody with quick load program, can you tell me what the "Heat of Explosion" with these two powders is?
Bump for a good topic. I’d like to see how 4166 works in the 35 Whelen. When mine gets done I just may pick up a pound and give it a try. Also would like to try 4955 in my 280. I have plenty of good old IMR 4831 for it but some new load work would give me something to do.

I did a lot of testing with 4166, 4451 in 243ai, 257ai, 250ai, and 7x57ai (yeah, I know I have an ai issue). Without a long story, I found accuracy with these powders improved as I approached my max load in every cartridge and my es sd numbers improved as well. I was testing mainly in early summer and temps only varied 15-20 degrees during the day so I couldn’t tell there was any increase in pressure as the day got hotter (90’s). I tested the copper fouling eliminator by shooting Barnes copper bullets. My barrels are all match grade on my hunting rifles and I found no visible copper after 50 rounds in any of the barrels and barrel steel was easily visible thru the very minimal powder fouling as seen with a borescope. 15 brush strokes with flitz bore cleaner made them look like new. I was very impressed with these powders. Single digit es and sd numbers were easy and accuracy was as good as my best loads with other powders. A target shooter would benefit from these powders but a hunter may not notice much difference at normal ranges

I have used 4166 lately. Have a great shooting load with 300 gr barnes TSX in my 416 remington magnum. Consistent sub moa groups and speed is 2712 fps. I could go up another 2 grains in powder, for some more speed. But their aint nothing in the deep south that I need anymore power for lol. I'm still in the load development stage with this powder in my 416 taylor improved. With 300 TSX , I settled on a speed of 2625 fps. Still working on seating depth though. I know I can get considerably more speed with this bullet in this rifle, I figured I dont have any need to hot rod it. Plus what ive had to pay lately for norma headstamped taylor brass im gonna baby that stuff lol. Looking at hodgdon data I maybe be trying 4166 in the 30/06 also, since I have 10 lbs of it. So far its been a good powder, I've yet to try the other enduron powders.

Would 4451 work in a .308? I think it may be too slow. Has anyone tried it?
