Enough is Enough

Manny had his surgery yesterday. We where supposed to pick him up today but got a call from the night nurse that he was jumping around every time he saw her. So we went and brought him home last night. He gets a lot of attention and thats what he wanted. Today was a rough day he didn't want to move.

If he’s not wanting to move just because of the surgery, that is a good thing. Running, jumping any athletic type movement is a bad thing right now. It’ll only be a few days and you’ll be going nuts trying to keep him moving slow.

Thanks for rooting for him Don. He's getting around alot better today. Alot more willing to get up and walk around. Was wagging his tail walking around haven'seen that in awhile. I believe he's going to be fine.

Jim it sure would. We brought Manny home at 12 weeks old. We only had him in a pen at night. During the day he would come bark at me and i'd ask him do want to go out and he started dancing around. Took him out he did his duty. We started letting him out of the crate at 14 weeks old if he had to go during the night he would come up to our bedroom and wake one of us up. In 7 yrs he has only dirtied in the house 1 time and that was our fault cause we weren't home to let him out. A lot of people have told me he would be a great service dog because he notices everything out of place. And he's so funny.

Last night we had him out to do his duty and he was going to try climbing at bank in the yard. I wouldn't let him. He's very special to me and I'm so proud of him.

sounds like your Manny is a good dog . wishing him the best speedy recovery .

it sure is easy to get attached to these dogs . I'd be lost without Sally .

when Sally needs out , through the night , she touches her cold nose on me . that gets me up . if she can't touch her nose on me , she shakes her head . the sound of those big ears flapping wakes me up quickly . sounds like a Piper cub getting ready for take off .

It sure is. We have him in a indoor/outdoor pen and he struuggles to get comfortable. He has his places where he sleeps and he just can't be there. He did really well yesterday on a walk in the yard. I had a hard time keeping up with him. He's having a hard time getting up but he tries like hell.

Jim I don't know what I'd do without him. This is our 3rd golden Our 1st 1 we had to put down at 7yrs from cancer our 2nd 1 we had to put down at 12 yrs beacuse of bad hips. I couldn't loose my son and dog in 4 months. He's the last dog we'll have because we're to old to raise another 1. Your right about getting attached to them. We don't realize how attached we are until something happene to them. You have a good dog Sally really enjoys you.

Don is your short hair on supplements after surgery? I just read the report from the surgery. He has plates and 8 screws in each leg. Both acl's were completly torn and he had torn meniscus.

Carprofen and glucosamine. The surgery was about 7 years ago. I was able to hunt her pretty hard for another 3 years or so after taking it easy the first year after the surgery. Two years ago I could hunt her for 3 or 4 hours twice a week with daily three mile walks in between. Last year she started winter doing 3 to 4 miles every morning, by spring she wanted to quit at two miles. Now she and her older sister are down to a mile walk off leash and they sleep the rest of the day. The arthritis has gotten pretty bad and she gets Carprofen every day. The ACL repair has held up. We are down to staying comfortable. Gone are the days she didn’t need the tailgate down to jump in the truck. Molly can still jump into the back seat area of my F150 Miss Sugar is nearer 15 years, she gets her front paws up on the truck and I have to hoist her back end up for her. This part of living with bird dogs is hard. They are pretty good buddies.

Thats awesome. Manny did excellent today. Just needs a little helpgetting up sometimes.
