Tina and I have been using these EXOspikes traction footwear this winter and they are amazing.

This is the hill we have been walking on almost every day this year. As you can see it is solid ice. During the course of the winter there has been varying degrees of snow over top of this ice.

Here is a photo of Tina this morning standing on this fairly steep seasonal road.

This product is so much better than what we had been using because the "spikes" can penetrate down through the snow on top of the ice and still get a grip on the ice.

What we had been using is similar to Kahtoola's NANOspikes. Those have little short spikes on a solid "sole" and the spikes can't reach through the snow on top of the ice.

The way these spikes grip is amazing. Each spike has a sharp rim around it so that it can't slip sideways on the ice. We can walk right up and down this icy road with no problem. The only thing is to walk a bit "flat footed". Obviously, you don't want to step down on the back edge of your heel or push off with the tip of your toes.

I highly recommend these for walking and hiking in the winter.

The one's that Tina are wearing are size LARGE over top of a women's size 8 waterproof, insulated leather hunting shoes. I wear size XL over men's size 11 Wide waterproof, insulated leather hunting boots. The XL just fits my size 11 hunting shoes.
