Well SPS had some stuff I had to have today. Got some more brass for my 280AI 140AB for the Swede then I saw some other stuff I didn't have to have but now I need to find two donors. One for an 8X57 and one for a 9.3X62. I guess that will keep me busy for a couple of years.

Could you please tell what brass you able to pick up for your 280AI? Is something other than Nosler?

Blessings,
Dan

Nosler. It's the only factory brass for it. Only other option is buy 280 brass and fire form it.

Accumulating brass is a sure-fire way to go broke. Not that the cost of brass ever drops; but when we pick up brass for a chambering we don't currently have... Well, it does stimulate the economy.

Hey, I have a stupid question. How's the accuracy of regular 280 medicine in a 280AI when fire forming; is it decent (less than 1.5 MOA is my definition of decent)?

Just curious as I have never had the pleasure of tinkering with an AI (but it's on my list). Thanks,

I'm not sure I haven't fire formed anything for my 280AI but I've seen others groups be better than MOA. I did fireform a bunch for my 338-06AI and had several groups under MOA.

Rob, I think Jim reports excellent accuracy with his forming loads and I am pretty sure Woody has good accuracy from his 243 as well.

I know. But I can save it for later!! Besides with all of these pretty SG showing up I'm starting to get jealous. I think an 06 SG would be a good start for a 9.3X62!

Thanks. So, when fire forming nothing is lost in terms of investment (ammo is expensive). In other words, I can use plain old factory ammo for any standard caliber that's been AI'd and upgrade (when I have enough fire formed brass) later.

Kind of hard to resist going the AI route, isn't it?

BTW, funny you should mention the 243 because that's the one I was planning on tinkering with in the future.

Thanks fellas,

SPS has/had 6.5mm 140gr AB

Should be quite the magic for either my 6.5 Swede or 260 Rem.

Cheers

They are awesome shooters in my 264. Thank you for the heads up. My cousin is going to use my 264 this Fall on Mt. Emily for the spike hunt with the 140 AB's.

Killdeer: to cut down on my ammo investment I'm going to use hornady bullets for the fireforming and if I get acceptable groups fireform on groundhogs too

then use the fireformed brass and nosler bullets for my main hunting loads. I know still not the ideal 1 round/gun but it will at least give me a 1 summer round for cheaper shooting and 1 winter round for big game hunting

That's a great idea Tim. Brian fireforms using Cream of Wheat and some fast powder for his 243 Ackley. Might save your barrel a little use as well. Plus, you don't really need to "shoot" anything and if you can handle the noise, you can work through 50 cases pretty quickly...

That darned SPS! I am becoming a sucker for Nosler brass and everytime that I go to SPS, I end up with Nosler Partition blems and Nosler cases. It is not that I can not use them, it is just my cash flow that seems to be lacking. This morning, it was 130 gr Partition Blems and .270 Win Nosler blem cases.

I was going to wait for the ABLR bullets but guess that project now will be in the 7mm Rem Mag.
