I've been loadin for my bro-in-law's 300rum using rem brass, retumbo, and 200gr ABs. Today he showed up with some once fired federal brass and asked me to load them for his hunting trip. Has anyone loaded with this brass? Am I gonna need to change the powder charge at all? Any imput would be great cuz I'm not about to give up any of my brass since it's nearly impossibe to find now.

I'm loading Fed nickle brass for my 338RUM. The rifle is new at currently getting a new trigger, so I have yet to fire any of this brass in the gun.

It's very possible that changing brass could change the characteristics of the load you developed with Rem brass. Only way to find is to test it. You might get lucky.

I wouldn't give of my brass either.

Anytime you change components, its best to start low and work up.

I would try the federal because it getting real hard to find 300 RUM brass and the Rem. brass for the 300RUM not that great. If only Nosler would make a few cases for me

I have been playing with some Federal cases in 338 RUM. Pretty good stuff.
I just wish Nosler would offer some.

Take a remingtion case and fill it full of a fine ball powder, and weight the powder, the do the same for a Federal Case. This will give you an idea of which one has a thicker brass. Just remember, the thicker the brass, the faster you will build pressure.

Thanks guys! I'm thinkin I'll just keep the federal brass and load up some of my once fired rem brass. Sounds like a deal to me  Nosler brass sure is nice. My only complaint is that the primer pockets get loose pretty quick. They are pretty when they come out of the tumbler though!!!
