I just picked up 3 boxes of Federal Premium 180gr Nosler Partitions for $11 a box. I hunt deer and hogs with my /06 and was curious if these would be too tough for deer? I shot them and they shoot great from my rifle. I figure they would be great for hogs, but I have been told the 150 is perfect and the 180 is too tough for deer?

Thanks

The 180 gr PT is a great all around bullet.

Thanks for the replies guys, I was hoping that would be the response. I have never used the Partition before, BT's in several guns, but never the Partitions.

Thanks again

Heath - I think you'll find the 180's do fine in deer - they are very unlikely to stay in the deer though. You'll likely get pass-through shots - which are fine with me, but it's something to be aware of. The front end of that 180 will open up just fine, even on light game.

Frankly - after all the years of hunting I've done - I'll be darned if I can think of any situation that couldn't have been handled, and handled well, by a .30-06 shooting a 180 gr Nosler Partition. Pretty much the classic do-it-all combination in my ever so humble opinion.

Guy Miner, thanks for the input. I have done some reading and it seems that the /06 + a 180 NP = good medicine for lots of stuff. Where I hunt it is usually very thick so a pass through should help with the blood tracking. I figure I might as well aim for bone with the 180's being a tough bullet, sound like a plan?

Thanks!

Less meat loss with AB.......the Part are designed to lose/ shed the front half....which hurts alot of ggod meat.

I use AB jacket and core seem to stick together better for less meat loss and accuracy alittle better

When I had a 30-06 that is all I used on everything. A good 180 gr is all you need.

If you do this, make sure your plan includes a sharp knife and some rope for the drag out of the woods.
Good plan indeed.
