Thinking I have talked to myself into a new Ultra Long Range project. Right now I am leaning towards a carbon barrel rifle built on a 700 clone action. Goal is to be around 8.5 pounds with a NF 5.5-22x50 scope.

Anyways, down to the 28 or 30 nosler. I am really leaning towards the 30 as the 210 lr AccuBond would be a legit 1000 yard round. Also, I have a great custom 270 so not sure about just moving up to a 7mm round. Thoughts? Feedback?

I think either one would work nicely but since you already have the 270 covered go with the 30 Nosler.

I think you may fall in love with one. May look and shoot like the rifle I have see attached.

I think a custom 270 and a 28 Nosler would be too close to the same to make a big difference. I see the 30 Nosler as the one to go with considering you can get heavy-for-caliber bullet, long range accuracy that has bullets at least 25 grains heavier than the 7mm family can offer.

The sectional density angle is a nice play with numbers but a heavy for caliber bullet is always going to rate a higher Sec Den than a lighter one of the same caliber. So what? If the heavier bullet isn't as accurate as a lighter one, go with the lighter in caliber. A 200 grain Partition or 200 grain A-Frame might shoot better than a 210 AccuBond.

Hey there idahohunter, when you said remington clone were you thinking Stiller action? Any thoughts on what you would use for a stock? The 30 Nosler sounds like an awesome cartridge and bullet choices are unlimited.
Also are you considering a Proof Research or Christensen barrel? With the right stock you will have no problem hitting your 8.5 lb goal. My rifle started as a new Remington 700 stainless, I had the bolt lightened and fluted and had a Sako extractor installed, barrel is a 26'' Christensen and the stock is also from Christensen arms. I used the Nightforce Directmount(low) one piece base and ring with integral recoil lug to mount the NXS 5.5-22x50 scope. Trigger is a Timney. Rifle , scope and mount is exactly 8.5 on postal scale. Keep us posted if you go ahead with this one.
