Gave up on my 7mm-08. Well not really, nothing wrong with it. But I really missed the 22Mag I sold several years ago so I swapped my used Stevens model 200 with Leuy bases and rings for a Savage Model 93FV in 22WMR. The only thing it lacks is the accu-trigger. Cheap simmons 8 point 3-9X40 and rings. The FV gave me the "bull" barrel which makes the Savage reciever look a lot better and gives it some weight. I paid $230 for the used Stevens. The Savage 93FV "Gander Mt. package" was marked 249.99. With coupons and all I had to give $15 bucks. However, I am happy with my swap. I got a brand new rifle, rings and scope. First time in 2o+ years. Rimfire central has some ideas for improving the trigger if I think it needs it. All said, I got me a new gopher gun! Stay tuned.... CL

Congrats on your New Gun!! I don't think there's a Savage out there these days that won't shoot real small groups. Have fun!

Congrats on your new Savage, CL. Everyone should have the fun of at least one new rifle, and it sounds as if you got a great one.

CL

Congrats on your new Savage. Let us know how she shoots.

Thanks Guys, Yeah I know, Almost as bad as some one who made us wait weeks for a picture of "Elvira", I believe it was. Havent named this one yet.
Incidentally, cant fnd any Boyds stocks on ebay. Is that just aonce in a while thing? Need a wood handle to hang on to. I missed one for the 93 a while back for 35 bucks! Any body got the link?
Headed over to "richards micro fit" cause I always wanted a rifle with a maple stock. But I feel kinda guilty, grew up 40 miles from Mitchel SD. Should support the boys back home. We'll see. Should be a while anyway. CL

So I have been experimenting with ammo for the Savage. So far the Remmington Premier is the winner. As you can see, there are six shots there, only one of them mine, I handed it over to a friend who put one more in the green and the nice tight string of three slightly to the left. Shot at 90 yards on a damp but windless 65 degree day.

So far, my impressions of the rifle:
The stock is awful- it will be replaced eventually- by somthing that has a comb. The bedding is a joke.
I thought I would enjoy the barrel heavy rifle a litttle more than I do. A decent stock should help that.
Terrible cheap clip attachment, and the pliers has been needed to make the thing feed decent.
Scope is a simmons. Clear enough, but so far has needed additional adjustment on each of the three times I've shot it. Adjustments are by guess and by gosh despite the clicks. Rings and bases do appear stout.
The Trigger was and is very crisp (no creep) but way to heavy. I have performed a trigger modification (shimming the trigger group rear screw) per a post on rimfire central, with .0020 brass shim. Greatly improved, but look for how to do it there. I would say its 2-3 lbs, no discernable creep.
As I said the Remmington seems to shoot better than the CCI Maxi-mag. The CCI group around 11/4 inch.
Are those Remmington Premiers loaded with a Nosler bullets?

So, All in all despite its faults, I really, really like this rifle. Ive shot it more than even my favorite old 250-Savage!! Cheap and fun! Accurate too!! Meets expectations for the price and shoots better than I do.

Well, the trouble with long cold winter here in the big city is I cant get out and shoot to scratch my itchy trigger finger so I use the mouse to spend money I cant afford. If you notice in my post above, my only real gripe is that awful stock shape....no comb....and way to front heavy. So I clicked my way to a new Boyds stock last night. I shouldnt have (money thing) but I scored a "limited run" Boyds "Dakota Will" style stock for $69.00. The alledged list price was $140.00 but that may just be good salesmanship on there part. Any how the Gray Black Laminate stock with a Med high comb, a sporter foreend, and dual swivels and recoil pad, should be here friday. I kinda wanted somyhing in walnut I could finish myself but I really caved in. I do NOT like that Savage factory stock. Now it WILL be a long winter 'til I can get out in the garage and pillar bed it. Any body want to buy the synthetic stock? :)

Here's a link to the Boyds page. Careful now, or you will be poorer too! CL

GRRrrrr......Sigh. Stiil more.....  :x New stock arrived. Barrel Channel needs to be opened up and I need a trigger guard. These things I expected, as noted on the Boyds' web site. What I did not expect was uneven stain coverage and a cut out for the safety that is basically in the wrong place.....the forward action screw has almost no wood around it. Literally, The hole is milled in half and there is still plenty of room for the magazine if there was more wood there. The rear of the barrel/action is unsupported. I am certian this is supposed to be the right stock for my rifle, if a little older. I expected it would need some work but there isnt enough wood in the right places. A call will be in order come monday. Always fight it 110% percent of the way......CL

Ouch! This is not what anyone wants to encounter. Good luck on working out the details. I surely hope the company is fair.

CL -
I had the same rifle with the accutrigger and encountered the same problem with the clip as you. It is a fun inexpensive plinker, but I got rid of mine instead of trying to go through all the work you are going through. I let a friend use it 3 years ago when we were in the "killing fields" of SD on p-dogs, and he had a great time with it!! It works well on shots out to 150 yards for those little varmints. Mine liked the Hornady cartridge the best. Hope you get things worked out.

If any one has an "E-Reciever" (that would be the accu-trigger model I think) and you could see your way clear to take a few pics of the action out of the stock, specifically the rear of the reciever and the trigger/safety area I sure would appreciate it. I am really thinking abouttrying to make this work. Thanks! CL

Well, I got that new camera.... So here finally, is an updated picture of my Savage Model 93 in 22mg WITH the boyds stock that "Bubba" did the bedding job on. (sorry I coulndt find that post...) This is my favorite rifle to shoot and it looks ok too.

The best part is.... that it usually shoots at least this well. I was satisified with this group considering just moments before I ripped off five 12 ga. slugs.

I wont tell you how many shots fell in an eight inch bull off hand at 100 yards

New years resolution for 2013....more practice and none of it on the bench. CL
