The success you both enjoyed and your efforts getting your son there are most impressive. When I was a kid (over 50 years ago) I shot my first buck with a .222 Rem. The next year I shot a buck in the chest with it, a standing shot at about 100 yds) and the deer ran off! We never could find it! That is why I am so happy to see that your son was using a adequate cartridge. Today there is so much better knowledge and options also such as soft recoil pads.
