First project gun

What is the difference between the ADL and BDL magazine box? I saw the tab but I see then listed different.

i was reading your posts about the stainless maybe not being as smooth as a chromoly action, i have a lawton 7000 on my 6.5-284 and a snowy mountain action which is a lawton clone and there both pretty smooth and both stainless. i also have a bat machine vr going on my coyote rifle that is also stainless and is the smoothest action i have ever handled. the defiance action that is out now is right there with it. as far as stainless goes i prefer to use stainless whenever i can. but i do like the surgeon actions as well and i believe they are chromoly.

I have both stainless and CM action and I can't tell the difference as far as smoothness of the action goes. It all boils down to the design of the action. One action that came to mind is the older A series Sako. The older A-Bolt Brownings is just as smooth also. My smith can make Remington 700 work smoothly by squaring and lapping all contact points. All my rifle action that had been blueprinted by Jim was so smooth that you can manipulate the bolt using only one finger.
I prefer CM action over stainless. CM are much more durable and stronger than stainless. Same true with barrel.

Got the phone call today my AI is shipping tomorrow and will be here Friday or Monday. Gonna have to open the stock up a touch and order some glass and mounts. Any suggestions for mounts. I want a SS base with no windage on the rear. Then probably matte rings for the scope. One-piece is perfered. I like the principal of KISS.

I am a big fan of the picatiny rail with Leupold or Warne PRW/QRW's. Rock solid and infinite ways to mount the scopes to make them just right.

Well I started my first project gun the other night. While looking at the Midway site and reading that trigger article on the forum I got an itchy trigger finger and bought myself a Jewell trigger for a 700. So now that the ball is officially rolling and I've kinda narrowed down what I want got a few questions.

Trigger- Jewell
Action - Rem 700 SS Pac-Nor Blueprinting Tubbs Recoil Lug
Barrel- Thinking Pac-Nor SS Super Match 28" #6 or Palma contour 1-9" 4 flutes leaning towards .280AI
Stock - Not sure but I do like the Hart accublock stocks at stockysstocks.com Anyone with any experience or opinions? Has to be a laminate! Maybe a thumbhole?!?!
Scope- Leupold would like the Mk4 Tacticle if i can get it to match 6.5X20X50

Might be a little heavy probably somewhere around 12 lbs but I'm sure it will drive tacks and be an all day shooter.

Too bad you jumped the gun, before someone could talk sense into you.

Better "luck",next time.
