First Remington

Probably a cost cutting measure.
Instead of sealing the bore and parkerizing the outer part of the barrel they have probably found it cheaper to just drop the whole barrel in a tank to parkerize it.

That seems counterproductive to me? Again, not questioning, just wondering what the point is? I am listening/watching with ears/eyes open on this one?

He did say the trigger was better than most on this rifle and said it was, Probably just a hair under three pounds."
 
Plan to take the new Remington, and only one I've owned, out Thurday to start breaking it in.

I'll be sure to keep this thread updated as I venture along in my quest for the ultimate moderate range deer/elk rifle. Moderate range is anything out to 800 Yards.

That's crazy! If they really did so, I believe there's a good chance your barrel is just flat ruined from the get-go.

I've never seen that.

The military uses chrome-lined bores for long barrel life in automatic weapons, but a parkerized bore? Like the rough, blackish coating on the outside of military firearms? That's parkerizing... You've got that on the INSIDE of your barrel?

That's just wrong. Seems like a manufacturing defect to me - and a perfect excuse to buy a brand new stainless cut-rifled Krieger barrel... :mrgreen:

Shot the R 700P with 200 grain Nosler Accubonds and H4831sc.

Not a combination I'm pleased with. Will try 180 grains and RX 22 later this week if I can. I love the way this heavy rifle handles recoil as it's less than my Winchester Model 70 with a Graco Mercury Recoil Reduction System.

If I can get this rifle to shoot a load I like I will forsake all other .300's and Remington will have won a fan. Time will tell as I'm an avid Winchester man. I know most folks like lightweight rifles for hunting but I like to shoot a lot so to me a heavy rifle is a blessing and I'll shave weight somewhere else, like not taking a toothbrush or a third pair of sock on a hunt over having a lighter rifle.

I wouldn't sell The Model 70 unless you need to. It could be just copper fowled or the barrel could be set back and rechambered. A good copper remover like KG12 could bring it back to life.
