My son is getting into LR shooting and got a new FFP scope.
Couldn't find QD 34mm rings from Warne at the time so he got Leupold QD rings.
I get him all mounted up, bore sighted up, off we go with two different loads.
He's shooting and I'm spotting.
Three shots but severely apart.
2 inches or so apart rrr r

I said that weapon and load shoot better than that.
He said you shoot it.
Same thing. I've previously shot seceral cloverleaf groups with that weapon.

Same thing. All over the place.

I'm standing there thinking, looking. Thinking and looking.
Looking and thinking.

Then I see...WHOA...
The scope walked back.
Right on back to the turret.
😯😯😯
Nearly an inch !!!!

This was torqued to 25" lbs.

Pack up and head to the house.

Verified the torque upon return with my $800 torque wrench.

As I'm inspecting this and I notice the rings are bottomed out on each other. Completely. Zero gap.
Let's look into this further.
I pull the scope and put the naked rings back on and tighten.

Measure them up. These are too big to bite a 34mm tube.

Leupold doesn't make QRW2 rings
in 35mm but they make
prw2 rings in 35MM.
I wonder if someone machined these for 35mm specs by mistake.

It's hard to believe they'd pass inspection this way but anything is possible I reckon.

Leupold wanted them back and I obliged....

Thought I'd pass this along. Sometimes our issues are right under our nose.
Literally!

Never assume anything when a problem arises.
