Well things have been kinda crazy this year, work has been very busy, with hardly a day off from August 1 till sept 30. It's tough to make any kind of plans for any sort of hunt with my schedule like that, but harvest is over and just when I seen some light at the end of the tunnel . We got hit with a huge blow, one of my hunting buddys ( grew up with him new him since we were 6 married my wifes cousin) was tragically killed in a farm accident while harvesting. The last 2 weeks have been kinda of an emotional roller coaster and very Chaotic. This man was pretty much soley responsible for my addiction to hunting the big Canadian Honkers, and other than my dad and bil he is who I have spent more hrs a field with then anyone else. So today I am heading out for a morning shoot, with another close buddy that also grew up with" the Legend". The 2 of us and my Chessie Ruger hopefully will have a good shoot, take some time to enjoy another sunrise from the goose blind, and say by to an old friend. So be safe out there guys and remember to stop and smell the roses, enjoy your hunt it's more then simply bagging an animal.

super-7,

It is always tough to say "Good-bye," especially to those who were especially close to us. I am sorry to hear that it was necessary to say "Good-bye" to such a friend. Enjoy your hunt, recalling the times spent learning the craft with your friend. You are correct that we need to treasure the time we have, always aware that we must one day give an account of our lives.

Sorry to hear about your friend. Those types of things are tough to handle. I pray you guys will enjoy your time out, and your friend will be watching over you.

S7, I had lost my hunting and fishing buddy also in an accident back in 2004. We had grown up together since we were 10. It was like losing a brother. You do reflect on life afterwards. Our first trip out West was in 2002. We went with a friend of his from college whose wife made the arrangements as a present for him. We have been going back to Colorado together every other year since. In 2010, we took my buddies son with us for his first trip out West. His father was good luck for me when we hunted or fished together. We hunted together on the 4th day and got into some elk. I was able to fill my cow tag and he would have been able to get his bull if there was a legal bull in the herd. That would have been special. Seems like he is also good luck for me. He is going back out with us in a few days and I hope he gets his chance.
After a tragic loss, you do reflect on life and maybe make some adjustments to value the experiences and opportunities that are presented. I really do think that they are there watching over us. I'm sure he is also with you. Good luck.

We had a decent hunt , good weather and some decent action. We manged 8 birds with three big ones.

Thanks for all the thoughts and prayers guys. It was fun but a bit slow on the action side Ruger really worked good. I feel bad for the ol mutt as he lives for this , but going to try to get him out more now. Recipe wise we grind 90% of it and make sausage or extruded jerky. We will wrap the odd breast with bacon and roast it now and then.
