FOTIS AND BULLET NEED BIG TIME COUNSELING!!!

I told FOTIS that we would never hear the end of this tail

russ, we both will have some fun and just realize how significant this is, it will save the throat on my 7mm-08  now if I can just control the number of rounds through that 8mm

FOTIS they know us to well, but since I did it, I am sure glad it was on this forum

Oh, something tells me that the 8mm RemMag will let you know when you have shot it enough... or maybe the big purple mark on your shoulder.

Yes sir, having shot one some years back I still remember the event as a friend let me shoot his. Like my 340Wby with no break, you shoot 20 to 25 rounds max at the bench in load work and then break for a few days. It truly is only for use as a hunting round, not fun time at the range.

I have shot and handled my 340Wby without a break and would go no more than 25 rounds each session so it will be about the same or a little less. The velocity of recoil is almost the same with the 8mm Rem Mag being undetectably faster.

30-06 23 ft pounds of recoil

Cartridge: 8mm Rem Mag

Firearm: Remington 700
Load and Firearm Info:
Bullet Dia (in): 0.323
Case Length (in): 2.850
Case Volume (gr H2O): 93.5
Muzzle velocity (ft/sec): 3000
Bullet Wt (gr): 220
Charge Weight (gr): 87
Barrel Length (in): 24
Firearm Weight (lb): 8.50
Free recoil energy is 42.2 ft-lb. (57.2 Joule)

FACTOIDS:
Free recoil velocity is estimated to be 18 ft/sec. (5.4 m/sec)
(This is equivalent to dropping the 8.50 lb gun from a height of 5 feet.)
The free recoil volocity is gained in only 0.14 in (3.6 mm) of travel
Recoil impulse is 4.7 lbf-sec (21 Newton-sec)
Powder gases generate about 38 percent of the total recoil impulse & velocity

Cartridge: 340 Weatherby
Firearm: Mark V
Load and Firearm Info:
Bullet Dia (in): 0.338
Case Length (in): 2.825
Case Volume (gr H2O):
93.5 Muzzle velocity (ft/sec): 3035
Bullet Wt (gr): 225
Charge Weight (gr): 88
Barrel Length (in): 26
Firearm Weight (lb): 8.50
Free recoil energy is 43.4 ft-lb. (58.9 Joule)

FACTOIDS:
Free recoil velocity is estimated to be 18 ft/sec. (5.5 m/sec)
(This is equivalent to dropping the 8.50 lb gun from a height of 5 feet.)
The free recoil volocity is gained in only 0.16 in (4.1 mm) of travel
Recoil impulse is 4.8 lbf-sec (21.3 Newton-sec)
Powder gases generate about 37 percent of the total recoil impulse & velocity

If it does not have one already I would install a limb saver recoil pad on her. I put one on my 8mm and it tamed the felt recoil quite a bit IMO.

One thing about trading with another forum member is like keeping the rifle in the family.

Yeah if they got a speedgoat hunt together it would be really funny to swap rifles back for the hunt! Be kinda cool too!

That's one sweet looking rifle that speaks with authority. Good Job bullet!

Yes, I am looking forward to working with it and then hunting with the 8mm Rem Mag

Bullet, if you have been shooting a .340, the 8mm Mag will not be a shock to your system at least. I shoot my .340 all the time at the bench, mostly with the brake if I am shooting many rounds but the newer Weatherby stocks have a pretty good recoil pad now.

Yeah, it will not be a surprise to me, here is my 340Wby and it has no break, and I could go 20 to 25 rounds on the bench without effecting my shooting very much at all.

Man, that rifle was a looker!

Yes, it is a special custom I built. It is almost to much on both ends, because it can kill on both ends.

Now that is a line to use as a quote, good signature line, I like how you said that, "there is a price to pay for wielding so much power over life."
