I have pretty much what I always wanted.

That said I would love to have this!

Funny how that works isn't it. A month ago I was set for life, and for any game world wide. But the wheels keep turning, now my year of not buying another rifle is filled with thoughts of a suppressed AR upper, a 45-70 lever gun, a 338-375R, a bolt .223 for my kids/wife (so x2?), and of course either a 260 or 7-08 for my kids. Not nearly going to happen this year, but that is the list.

Justification, a funny thing I think.

I noticed that Cabela's is selling a "Model 71", Winchester as part of their 50th Anniversary sale. It is a Model 1886, half magazine, in .45-70 but who's counting. The rifle in the brochure has a really nice piece of wood and is not that much more than a real Model 71 would cost in LNIB condition.

Fotis,

That Voere is a delightful weapon. It is certainly a smooth action.

Rgr... I am pretty sure it won't happen soon........[/quote]
Thats the easy part, get one simular to one they saw before, sneak it into the safe when they are out, they'll never know.....if by chance they notice it the magic phrase is " I only paid 300 bucks for it" your home free

Well, I talked to Jim (JD338) last night, and he pointed out that I NEED a Marlin Guide Gun, and the rest of you enablers push anybody and everybody to Whelens and Guide Guns (and I already have a Whelen) so maybe I need to add that one, too.

Kurt,

The 1895G 45-70 and the 700 35 Whelen is like a 1-2 punch.

Hmmm....Am I an "enabler". I called a buddy this afternoon and he answers the phone "So are you at Cabellas?" Well yes, how'd ya know (Rogers Mn) ...."cause its sunday afternoon and you are callin me..." Yea but, they've got a dozen program guns (used) on the rack. They are 1895 GL in 45-70. You know, you wanted one.....? "Dang it, I gotta start screening my calls, Im still tryin to figure out how to tell the "financial manager" about the ammo you talked me into last week...." True story...So yes I'm an enabler- but really I'm just trying to live vicariously through some body else's money! CL

that's just sad! You guys need a 257 Roberts

With as many M70's you have it shouldn't be hard to hide. Or maybe you can convice Winchester to donate you one!

I've got some of my list knocked out already this year but I have quite a few left.
7-300wm with Obermeyer sporter barrel on a SS 700 action
30-338 Lapua AI with a Krieger RV contour on a SS 700 action
300wsm with a Krieger 17" twist RV barrel on a 700 action
338 Edge or Lapua AI with a Krieger 9.35 twist HV barrel on a SS 700 action
.375-338 Lapua AI with a Krieger 10 twist on a stiller TAC338
.45 cal. smokeless muzzleloader on a SS Rem. 700ml or a standard SS 700 action
Another .458 Lott on a new Mark X Mauser action I've had laying around for years
.470 Capstick pistol on a Xp-100 action

I also have a 6.5mm Bartlein barrel I've been thinking about doing a 6.5-300wm on but might sell it and do a .416 RUM or .416-338 Lapua AI (416 Rigby AI) instead.

I can't wait for my first one to get done. There's just something about building one that's awesome. Knowing that this is the only one in the world like it. Plus you know it's done right and will shoot. I've been pondering ideas on the stock for the Pre-64. I should go another way than the way I'm currently leaning it would be a lot cheaper and such but it will turn this one into an absolute gem. (I'll wait until its finished before I let the surprise out, only pictures will do it justice!) Besides these ideas get me through all these long nights I get to work. Now if only I had all the resources necassary to do it now. Maybe I'll give Winchester a call Friday and see if I can order just actions. If so it might be the death of me! It made me feel bad when I had to go buy a new Remington for an action. At least I got a .270 so I knew I had no desire to shoot it. I could have ordered a blued one from Brownell's but it was cheaper to go buy a new ADL and I wanted a Stainless. It's just too bad they wouldn't let you build a more custom rifle than whats produced at the factory with the not so custom price. Personally I think the caliber selection of rifles being produced right now sucks. If they wanted to make more money I think they should set everything up to where they have everything ready except the barrel being chambered and when you place an order they chamber it headspace it and send it out that process doesn't take much time and they could have it to you in like 2 weeks.

I don't know if I want the answer to that to be yes or no.

For the most part I have just about anything I have ever wanted except:

1. 1949 Model 70 in 375 H&H, Lyman 48, low comb stock
2. Smith and Wesson model 610 with 6" barrel
3. Custom Model 70. ( probably leaning on either a 35 whelan, or a .280 rem)
4. Merkel double rifle in 470NE. ( pipe dream)
