I decided to work with IMR4007ssc in my 30-06 Marlin XL7 using my favorite bullet when hunting whitetail deer and hogs, the 165gr HPBT Sierra G/K

My load chain was:
165gr HPBT Sierra G/K
IMR4007ssc
Winchester Brass
Fed 210 Match primer
OAL 3.185"

Results:
Velocity - 2907fps average
Extreme spread - 13
Deviation - 5
Group size for three shots -

Target three shot group

Increased the charge by 3/10 of a grain and average was 2938fps five shot group.

Target five shot group with 3/10gr increase.

I liked how this turned out, will use IMR4007ssc with my 06 some more.

Good post, Mike. I've found IMR 4007 SSC to be a beneficial powder, especially in standard cartridges. Fine shooting, and excellent photography, as usual.

This is the first time I have used it with the 30-06 and I am impressed.

I am going to back off this load some because when I look at data including Q/L this load might be at 54,000psi and could be lower due to the shallow lands and grooves of my Marlin, but over my desired 62,500psi. If anyone would run for me this bullet and powder in their Q/L program and keep my max at 62,500psi so I can double check this, I would appreciate it. Now my brass is not showing excess but that does not mean there is not excess.

Great post bullet. I had no idea 4007 was a good powder for 06. Thanks a bunch. While back I was eye balling three 1lb. jugs right there in front of me at gun store. I hesitated about a minute too long and another fellow walked right to me and grabbed all three containers. I asked him what he was going to load with the powder. He said the 30;06. Dang it.

I rescued a load for a 375 Ruger with 270 grain TSX on one occasion when I used this powder--one-half MOA. I quit with that.

Nice!

Looks like it could be good in the Whelen and I have heard it can work very well in the 325WSM as well.

Great shooting, looks like a really good load. I can't imagine deer liking them..
