got my elk

On sept 17 I got my elk wow!! What a hunt I shot with my mod 7 .308 called it into 25 yards and shot it quatering front shoulder it went down got up pilled up in some logs and then i finished it off. The load 45grsh-4895 lapula brass 210mfed primeres O.A.L 2.810 @2805 i wolud like to tell you the bullets were etips but i could not get them till 3 days before hunting season but i did get them . i used last years ttsx 150 next year it will be e tips. here are some picks of me my dad and some spawning kookanee landlock salmon they are only about 12 to 15 inches long and were in the river by our camp . the slide is where i got the elk it at the top right side of the picture. I hunted this bull for 3 days and twice had him in to 30 or less yards but could not see him or get him into a spot to see him. I actualy thought this was the herd bull but only the out rider bull. but still what a great hunting trip we saw two spikes fight and 3 other 6 points two of them would push 320+ B.C including the herd bull with this one.

As much as magnums are pushed for elk hunting its nice to see succsess with regular cartriges, good for you 8)

pop the elavation is about 3600+ .Ishot at the top leftside of the slide in the picture in the heavey timber at first the bull bugled about 100 yards up the hill from me Iwas on an old skid trail above the orange mountain ash treestop right on the slide pic this went on for about 45 mins I call he calls them grunts half bugles Ican here him getting :evil: but he will not come So i move up the slide on the left side in the trees now every 5 mins he is bugling when i get to about 40 yards from him i call back i can here him working over some trees. it si so thick you can only see about 20 yards. so we call back @forth for about 15 mins i can here him walking in the dried ground so i think he comming for sure them for about 15 mins nothing no bugling evan if call first. its a wierd feeling you here nothing . then about 200yards down to my left i here a bugle so i am thinking that chicken #$%% is tring to get out with his cows so put my gun on shoulder and start running down the hill making as much noise as possible he bugles twice while i am comming down the hill so i slow down stop give a call with the bugle pointing away from him then he growls like a bear this is the noise i have been waiting for because now he :evil: so i mimic his bugles and noise now i can here him coming toward me he is not being quiet you can here him comming over the logs ect. from my left side i see some dark brown off his neck now i am thiking ok this it then nothing i can not see him any more so i turn my bugle toward give him a growl and high pitch sceam and a few grunts then the bush parts about 30 yards to my left were i first seen him now i put my gun up count 6 tines now he is leagle to shoot because where i live they have to have 6 tines one inch long min on any side or they can have more. so flick the safty off and he moving down like he is going below me then turns up to my right looking up hill and i thinking lung shot but my shooting lane is so small and i can not move with been seen so i take the shoulder shot the bull fall down gets up fall down then i shoot hin in the other shoulder as he turned back he then pilled up in the loggs his hinds were still going but no front end just pushing dirt. the hill is so steep that when i shot him standing up it was like laying prone . so after he was dead me and my brothinlaw drug him down to the sid trail were we could get him out in half down to the truck were those pic were takin . in the pic the elk is in half and we were just about to hide because of the heat of the day it got to 76.0 F
we also got my dad back at camp to help out . 2nd best close in bull i had shot that's no.6 it weight 425 at the meat market that is in 1/3 hinds whole fronts split . I used a diapham for elk bugle load 150grs tts 2805 45grs h-4895 . sorry nosler my 150 e tips i got them to late for load devolpement next year.
gun custom mod 7 .308 22 douglasd barrel 4.5x14vx111 long range30mm tube shoots 4/5 in .321 of an inch.5/5 in 3/4 inch
I can wait till next year. now its deer time or sheep .
