Well, I took a couple rifles down to my local shop, and traded them both. Didn't feel like waiting till the last minute to get a gun and then have to jump through my butt getting a shotgun ready for the hunting season.

I ended up grabbing one of the Savage 220's in 20 gauge. I also picked up a rail for it and mounted up an older VXII 2x7 I had laying around. Seems like a nice package. The Trigger is typical of the Accutrigger, excellent. It is a little stiff and not exactly Model 70 like, but it should be a servicable weapon for Lori or Brandon to use.

I also grabbed a bunch of slugs as well, some cheapy Winchester Foster types to get a decent zero with, then some Hornady 250 SST's, Winchester Supreme 260 grain PT Golds, Federal Fusions, Remington Core Lokt Ultra's and Federal Blue Box Sabots.

Also, just so you all don't think I have gone nuts, I finally got access to hunt alot of country, directly to the South of me. Some of the best bucks I have ever seen are coming off the areas I have permission to hunt, BUT, it is a shotgun only area, so along with my 11-87, I needed something for Brandon and Lori to use when they wanna hunt with me.

Should have it out to the range shortly for zeroing and seeing what load will work. I REALLY hope it is the 260 PT Golds, but with my luck it'll end up being the danged Remington's that shoot best!

Looks as if you are good to go. I believe that will be a fine addition to your arsenal.

It isn't pretty, but if it shoots, it'll be okay by me. Looks plenty serviceable enough and the reviews seem very good on them.

Good stuff Scotty!.. :) ...I'm sure it well get blooded in no time!...I hope to shot gun hunt too in december pal, but for now im kinda getting ready for my moose hunt..I have a tag for shot gun deer hunt 1/2 hr from home..time well tell?..we have 2 deer already via bow hunt, good luck buddy :) ..Lou

If you got to shoot slugs that looks like a good set up on the Savage for doing that. A scoped bolt action with the Accutrigger should do the job efficiently.

Scotty,

Good show. The Savage 220 is one heck of a slug gun. Shoots like a rifle!
The new 20 ga slug ammo available is impressive too.

Looking forward to the range report.

I hope it shoots. It is very stiff and extraction doesn't seem awesome. I oiled it up and cleaned the bore out. Pretty sure it just needs some good working. I imagine it'll shoot well though.

I will say one thing though, paying 15.00-20.00 for FIVE rounds is robbery! Glad I won't be shooting many of them but sheesh, they are pricey!

I hope so Pat. Just need to get out and put a zero on it and test out some slugs. Hopefully something in the mix perks out of it. It really feels like a nice package though. Trigger is very nice. I like how the rail and rings went together. Probably about the most solid mount I have seen on a shotgun.

NIce looking shotgun Scotty and i had a friend that recently picked up a 22 rifle from Savage and he said about the same thing as it was stiff and needed some TLC to get it to work just rite but since he massaged on it a bit and lubed it up he said it is a single hole puncher! I think you will be very happy with those Hornady SST's they shoot awesome in a friends 12 ga and he took a big 4x4 Muley with his and this deer sucked up 3ea 300 Gr SST's and still ran a ways but the 3rd slug rolled him like in the movies head over heels! :) Basically a 200 yard slugger in the 12 Ga once you get your trajectory dialed in! Congrats on the new toy!

Is it rifled or smoothbore? Looks very rifle like and cool. I've had good luck with Lightfield Commander sabots in rifled and Breneke TKO slugs in smooth.

It is rifled Yote. Thanks Taylor, reading now.

That sure looks like a nice set-up Scotty. I know the .12 gauge with slugs kicks like a mother bear, but I would think a .20 gauge would not be too bad. We use those short barreled Remington 870's at work and those things beat the snot out of you! They have some "reduced recoil" loads now that work fine and don't belt a person too badly. Best of luck on a big buck for the family crew!

Looks like a nice set-up. My uncle killed many a whitetail with a 20ga shotty.

I have had excellent results with Lightfield Hybrid EXPs in both 12 and 20 ga rifled barrels. We were forced to shoot slugs for quite some time and I went thru a ton of slugs looking for what worked best for us.

NICE! That should get her done! Cant wait to hear your range report. Better your shoulder than mine.... :) CL

PS- Fedral premium - Barnes expanders Shot best for me. Hornadys are almost as good....and cheaper.
