Grand Teton National Park, Sept 2021

Spent a week tent camping in Grand Teton National Park. Just got to a motel yesterday for shower, shower, shower, laundry and posting some photos. Here's a start:

Bear came to me, or us, and was after berries. He had no interest in us. I didn't approach him, but ya, even with the telephoto, this seemed a little close. I escorted an alarmed elderly couple out of there and back to their car. He seemed like a big boy, appeared taller than my 6' and of course much heavier. Man, did he like those berries!

Moose rut was in full swing and I got dozens of photos of moose including this handsome fellow:

Bison/Buffalo - love watching them! They were pretty danged active:

Was fortunate enough to catch sight of this band of pronghorn bucks:

More later, still traveling.

That’s my favorite spot on earth.
Went hiking up the Grand Teton trail, went up to the snow line, and saw a huge blood kill that was a minimum of 30 ft wide.
Immediately decided to hike back down after seeing that.

I had a young bull moose within 20 feet of my tent one day, and a bear sauntered through camp maybe 30 yards away. The place is alive with large animals. I read that at one point the elk herd in Jackson Hole probably numbered 25,000. Most were killed by meat/market hunters and other folks just for food. I think there's 4,000 - 5,000 remaining. I didn't see many elk on this trip, believe most are still up in the "high country."

Great trip and I'm bringing my wife next time. We'll stay at a cabin though, she's not real fond of tent camping anymore.

You have certainly captured the spirit of some great animals. They are lovely to see in the wild, and lovely to see again after captured as a permanent image.

Well Guy, it looks like I probably drove right past you somewhere on my way home. The girls and I spent a couple days in Yellowstone and the Tetons after we left our Antelope hunt. Some terrific photos you’ve taken there. It truly is a magical place for sure.

The cabins are a great way to stay in that area. I did that back in ‘98, and wasn’t disappointed. I’m the kind that likes to rough it, but that was a welcomed extravagant stay. LOL
You are correct when you say there are a lot of large animals around there. Black bear are plenty up there as well, and come into camp quite regularly.
It’s beautiful there. Glad you could enjoy it as well.
Oh! And if you really want to impress your wife, book a stay at the Grand Teton Lodge. I went in there to get lunch and breakfast, and WOW! What a view! Plus, the hotel is magnificent, with it’s panoramic view of the mountains.

Well I thought I had replied to this but I guess I didn't.

Some really good photos Guy and a really beautiful area. We have only been once and that was about 20 years ago. (Dang has it really been that long). We stayed a Jackson Lake Lodge. That was a great trip and we really need to get back there.

Nice. We drove through Yellowstone in late Aug. and didn't see much of anything. We were headed back to WA and didn't plan on staying, so we weren't really there too long. A couple Buffalo and a few Bighorns.
