gun show bullets

I bought some .284cal bullets at a gun show thay were cheap
when a got home I noticed that thay were nickel plated so I thought :?
my reloading buddys told me not to shoot them because thay were steal
and would hirt my gun :shock:
so I tryed a magnet and the stuck to them :x
any sugestions would help.

They`re likely pulled military bullets, they sometimes are soft steel jacketed depending on the intended use and cartridge. I don`t think they`ll hurt your rifle but I personally would shy away from them. Remember if you do load them the jacket is quite different from the copper used by Nosler, Sierra, ect and they will preform differently.
Keep a eye on the cases for pressure signs.

I think your right thay look like military
thay weigh 155-158gr dont think I will use them good thing thay were cheap (3.50 @100) :lol:

They could be a mild steel jacket, or they could be a CN (cruppo-nickel) jacket, or they could simply have a steel core. Only way to tell is to hacksaw one in half (make sure there are no signs of any "point ID colors" IE tracer or incendary before cutting.
Just noticed there 7mm, which would mean there pulled down from old 7mm Mauser ammo (only 7mm military I can think of, other than a few experamental cartridges) and are most likely a CN construction. Very easy on barrels (one of the first "non fouling" jacket materials), just work up easy on your loads.
