...last 30mins. of shooting light on the last day. Passed up a lot of deer, ended up w/ a small 4 pt. No pics, light was fading fast, needed to get him dressed out & skidded out to the truck. More tomorrow, now it's dinner, a shower, & bed...

Sounds good, Gene. It works that way quite often. Still, you tagged out. Congratulations. What cartridge did you use?

Nice Gene, glad that you got to get one at the last minute, better then going home empty handed!

Congratulations Gene. You got in a whole season of hunting AND got a deer.

Nice buck. My brain went to 4 point (eastern count) and was surprised to see the nice 8 pt in your picture. I hope to get a nice mule deer someday.

Really nice!
Congrats on a very nice deer.

Gene that is not a bad 4 X 4 ! It will sure help fill your freezer & there could be some sausage there as well.
Thank you for the post & photograph Bud!!

Blessings,
Dan

I did the same thing. I would be happy tagging that deer.

Adding congratulations Gene, nicely done.. Is your elk season still open?

...well, yeah, kinda, got a cow this morning, still got one more tag. No pics, I was busy, my buddy took some, I'll try & get 'em to post. Had to wait 2 mins. till legal shooting light, couldn't see nuthing after the muzzle flash, she ran about 7'. Shot the buck & cow w/ 180gr. GrandSlams over RL-17 w/ the Tikka T3 .300 WSM. Both were on the ground before I could chamber another round, dead before I got to 'em, no bullet recovery, thru & thru...

Very Nice Gene, I am glad to hear that you are having some success.. That Tika sounds like a great rifle.. I will have to research the ballistics on the 300WSM to see what I am missing with the '06.. ;~)

...well, the WSM uses about 15% more powder than the '06 for about 20% more energy & 8" less drop @ 400yds. Conversely, the .300WM uses 7% more powder for 2% more energy & 2" less drop, the .300Wby uses 14% more powder for 4%/ 5", & the .30-378 uses 40% more for 15%/ 6". The .300 WSM seems to do it w/ considerably less recoil & muzzle blast...
