I'm loading for a friends 300 WBY MAG and I've never reloaded for a WBY rifle before, its has lots of freebore and I'm trying 180 gr. Accubonds in it, need help / info on loading for this rifle, i.e. OAL for cartridge, how sentative is this cartridge to OAL , should i try to load as close to lands as magazine will allow or seat the bullets deeper? :?:

84.5 gr IMR 7828 with 180 Accubonds & CCI250's prints .500 groups from my Enocre barrel. Bullet seating works best for me when I seat the base of the bullet to the base of the case neck. Works in both my 300 Wby & 7 Wby. First targets on both were 3 shots fired and two holes on the paper. That load I mentioned runs 3250 fps in my gun.

Thanks for the info, I'm still wondering if there are any tricks or things i should be doing with regards to bullet seating in this WBY rife. It seems to have a mile of freebore and most all of the other rifles i've loaded for like the bullet seated out close to the lands. Are WBY rifles not sentative to this?

My Howaby 300 WBY has a mag length of 3.575". Nowhere near the lands. Doesn't seem to affect accuracy.
I'm using H4831SC and 180gr Protected Point Partitions in a 24" barrel. Accuracy is always under an inch with whatever bullet I use. Once in a while the holes touch if I do my part.
I'm thinking that in a freebored Weatherby barrel, seating to the lands may not be that big of a deal.
Installing a better stock and a Decelerator helped groups more than anything I could have done in the reloading room IMHO.

I have a WBY Mark V in 300 WBY. With the freebore the bullet contacts the lands out to far to either fit in the magazine box or be ejected if placed in by hand. Best bet is to make it function in the magazine box..........let it dictate what OAL you should use.

The other guys are right, with the freebore on Weatherby rifles you will not be able to reach the lands. I own two Remington 700 Classics that are chambered in Weatherby cartridges. On both rifles I just load as long as my magazine will allow and get good groups with both.

Interestingly enough, when the 200 grain Accubonds in 30 caliber first came out Layne Simpson did a rather extensive article on loading them in the 300 Weatherby Magnum.
He actually found he got better accuracy seating the Accubonds deeper in the case than he originally started out with. He got best accuracy loading to about the same length as factory ammo.

I found that my 200 grain AccuBond worked best at 3.700" oal. They will feed from the magazine fine at 3.7". The load shoots in the .2" to .3" in my skim bedded Accumark. 85.5 grains of imr7828 goes 3160 fps out of Weatherby brass using CCI-250 primers. I started out at 3.64 and they shot .7 to 1 inch. That little move made all the difference. So far with a poor rest it has gone 1.5 even at 322 yards. Off a decent rest I'm sure this will shrink a bunch.
