270 weatherby.

130 accubonds at 3450 fps. Not too shabby.

Always interesting to see your trades, Fotis. Good looking rifle. What are you planning to use for glass?

Nice find, POP! I've got her twin in blued steel, and you know I love her!

Very cool rifle Fotis! That 270WBY is a force to be reckoned with for sure! Scotty

Heath, I'm curious, as I have a stainless synthetic in 300Wby as well. What problems are you having with yours shooting? I've found a few good loads in cursory workups just shooting three shot groups for pressure/velocity testing. I got two sub-1" groups with 180gr Hornady SST's (would shoot Interbonds at game) but I can't remember right now if it was H1000 or IMR7828 under them. Still need to do more testing and workup on that one...and a bunch of others.

What are you seeing with yours? Since you're in the Knoxville area (I think?) maybe we can catch a weekend somewhere (I'm in Huntsville) and wring them out together to see what we find?

dubyam, I'm seeing about 4"-6" vertical strings. I tried 180NBT's with IMR7828, CCI250's and Fed 215's in Weatherby brass. Leupold bases and rings, vari-XIII 6.5-20 scope.

I live in Oneida, about 60miles North of knoxville. You in Huntsville, TN or AL?

Huntsville, AL, Heath. It's a trek - about 4.5hrs - between us. I was thinking you were southwest of Knoxville for some reason. Anyway, I'd look first at three things:

1. How you rest the rifle. I've found with these tupperware stocks, any variation in pressure on the forearm will vary point of impact. I rest mine literally on the front action screw, to exert as little forearm pressure as I can. It makes for a steady and compact hold, so it works for me.

2. Screws - Are all your screws properly torqued? I just run my action screws in hand tight and then firm them with a screwdriver. Nothing over-tight. Just tight enough not to work loose. That seems to be helpful for these tupperware stocks, as well. Also, check your scope mount screws and ring screws.

3. Scope. I know it's not kosher to say this, but I've seen a number of Leupold scopes crap out right out of the box over the last few years. They usually do more than vertically string, but if you have a different scope you know is good, swap it on and see.

You might also check the crown, but it sounds like you've got a consistent problem, which generally won't happen with a crown flaw. Those, in my experience, go a little haywire and end up more than just vertically strung.

As a last resort, you could sand out the pressure points and be sure to fully float the barrel in that tupperware stock. I'd be willing to bet the vertical stringing is related to #1 above - forearm pressure. You'll still have variable pressure due to flex in the forearm, but you might float it out enough that you can have the flex without the pressure. Of course, for $250 you can restock it with a B&C Medalist. That's what I'm saving up for - for both of mine.

Dang Heath! I am sure that new Winchester will redeem your faith in the 300's! I know how those dang Weatherbys are all over the map!!!

Just messing with you Dubyam! Knowing now, about how easy pillars and bedding are to do, as soon as I get things like this (vertical stringing), I almost will always bed them right off. Not worth blowing powder and bullets chasing something so easily fixed. Not sure how well made the Weatherby plastics are but your right, the B&C Medalists or better take alot of stress out of tuning these rifles. Scotty

Funny, I was thinking to myself this morning in the shower that I think a 270 Weatherby would be a good gun to have in my safe.

Very good looking rifle! Congrats!

Man Jake, don't get distracted, you still have the 6.5-06AI to build! Scotty

270 Bee is a dang good cartridge...

Pretty under rated round IMO. Nothing wrong with 270s of any kind, especially the BEE, kill anything short of grizz pretty darn good with 140-150s out there aways.
