Hi POP - QL Request

New to this forum and new to reloading (cousin told me how great this site is for newbies like me).

New to reloading - shooting a .300 WSM (which I bought from this same cousin). I only have Reloader 19 Powder and 165 grain Barnes TSX bullets (ordered 180 grain Etips - eagarly awaiting the arrival of these).

I have no manual - at least not yet. Can you provide me with loading data for these two bullets if possible using RL 19(I know the Etip is fairly new so I wouldn't be surprised if you could not get me data for this)? Thanks.

Don't even bother loading anything until you have a manual, preferably one from your bullet mfgr. and one from you powder mfgr. Read the articles in the front of the book (on how to load, troubleshooting, and reading pressures). By and large, if you take your time and have a good grasp on what you are doing, handloading is a safe, rewarding hobby, but things can go badly fast if you don't.

AS recommended, I checked the Barnes site. Interesting - the 180 Gr ETIP seems to use significantly less powder than the 180 Grain TSX (and less potential velocitiy). I am assuming this is because of the different shapes/composition of the bullets.

I am assuming I should use load data from the STEP +00.0 as my MAXIMUM LOAD (i.e., is the "nominal charge"). I am assuming this because STEP -10.0 charge is 10% less than the step +00.00 charge(it seems that 10% less than MAX seems to be acommonly recommended starting point for load development).

BTW - is the reloading instructions that came with my new Lee Classic Cast press different from what I would expect from a dedicated reloading manual (should I wait until I get the Nosler 6 manual before I start reloading)?

At the very least, get the Barnes manual if you are going to load Barnes bullets and the Nosler #6 if your going to load Nosler bullets. I know the Nosler manual has a section dedicated to the loading process. You can also look up various Hodgdon loads on their website, BUT, be very careful when loading up the E-Tips (Use the Nosler #6 manual for this), for the instructions provided with the box. E-Tips generate pressure faster that other bullets.

Step 0.0 is the value I input. Then it goes lower on top and higher on the bottom. I would start below the near max loads.
