So... I know I'm supposed to be sharpening my skills with my .25-06, looking forward to a couple of mule deer hunts and pronghorn this fall...

But I couldn't help but go shooting the .375 Model 70 lately. No new photos, just the same .375 that I picked up last summer, topped with a mere 2.5x Leupold. Stoked it with some 235 gr Speers, loaded a mite on the warm side for about 2900 fps... An old buddy of mine told me he used to hunt mule deer & elk with the 235's and described the results on game as a "train wreck" meaning that there was a whole lot of destruction in the vitals, and really dead game on the ground, quickly.

Dang. Nice and Tight groups. Huh. Zero at 200, about 8" low at 300 and over 4,000 fpe at the muzzle. Recoil from this well-stocked rifle is not a prolem. Accuracy is great, roughly MOA without hardly trying. The hunters from way back when were right, a fellow really could do it all with a .375 H&H! I could see carrying this thing for mule deer, though I might pop the 1.5-5x on it... Quarter rib doesn't leave room for anything with a big objective lens.

Hmmmm....

Guy,

Only one way to scratch that itch. Take the big 375 H&H on your deer hunting. safari.

Truly a do all cartridge, Guy. A lovely piece of art, in addition.

I love the .375...even as a medium game gun. It'll do it if you can take the recoil.

I really liked the 250gr TBBC at 2500fps- you could eat right up to the hole. Less damage than a .300 or .270 by far.

You are absolutely correct Guy. It is a wonderful round. Mine really likes 225 Hornady. I hope to smoke a deer or two with it this year.

Gotta love the .375 Guy, It has become my favourite cartridge, and for good reason :)
Lou

Guy, for 10 years the only rifle I shot was a Browning Medallion in the 375 H&H. I shot Antelope all the way to Elk :). I only used 235 speers & if I remember right IMR4895 powder. That particular load was right around 3900fps & a little change 8).
Sure hope you use that beauty this fall.

Blessings,
Dan

210 barnes X Guy!

Evil Fotis... I am trying real hard to NOT buy any more .375" bullets! Have enough to last at least one hunting lifetime, if not two... And no Barnes 210's on hand. I do have 235 Speers though!

220 Hornady
235 Speer
260 Nosler AccuBond
270 Nosler Partition (old style)
270 Hornady Round Nose
270 Hornady Spire Point
285 Speer Grand Slam (old ones)
300 Hornady Round Nose
300 Hornady Spire Point
300 Hornady FMJ
300 Sierra SPBT
300 Nosler Partition...

As well as some cast bullets for it...

This mule deer hunter isn't buying any more .375" bullets!

Of course I said that at about 800 of them, and now I think I'm up close to 1,000 again... Sheesh.

210's you say?

I had a nice.416Rigby I sold because I went about to a .378Wea. I just fell in love the .375cal rifle on first "sight".
From 200grain Impala bullet screaming @ 3600 ft/sec to 380grain Rhinos at thundering 2550 ft/sec .Topload done in my friends .378Wea rifle was 3020 ft/sec with 300grain FN GS custom bullet. That thing penetrated more that 80cm(31") beechwood(hardwood) and still goes orbit.
More versatility in the .375cal becauser so many more makes good bullets for this caliber. It´s a good medium bore with toughest Big Game hunting capability.

My .375-.358STA (.375 H&H Imp.) has shot a ton of game from a duiker and warthog to kudu, elk, and moose. My main bullet was a 250gr Sierra at 3080fps using IMR4350. I shot one of my furthest shots on a elk with it also at 650yds. Everything hit with it was thoroughly impressed.

Holy smokes I bet it was impressed!

That is a freight train!

That's a beautiful rifle Guy and it sounds like a real shooter too..

Yeah, that 235 at 2900 has to be real mean!
