Who besides me would some day like to hunt one of these? Besides being a very special hunt, boy a person sure would have some wonderful meat also! I have eaten bison and it's very good.

OH yeah! On my bucket list, but it can not be a canned hunt!

I have hunted these shaggy beasts. They are no difficult to find and they die pretty much like any other animal. The meat is, as you stated, excellent. They do require quite a bit of work, however, to skin and prepare. I obviously don't do that for a living.

I agree on that Fotis. Do you put in for the tags near Jackson? I apply for the Montana tag every year but have not been drawn so far! :x

I would love to shoot a free range Bison.
Not sure if I would use my 338 RUM or my 45-70.

YUP I do!

It is on my wish list for sure. They are really neat critters. When I was a kid, Dad used to raise the on the farm here. I remember going for drives with him and checking them. They aure are huge!

I think to be a real man about it, a fellow should just walk up, grab those horns and wrassel it to the ground!

Or maybe not...

Huge beasts, and yes, I'd kind of like to hunt them someday. I'd need a bigger freezer and a real truck again, not my little Jeep!

I have applied for the Bison in Wyoming for 15+ years. I told a friend about the drawing. He applied with his wife. She drew the very first year and he drew the next??? Way too cool. She told me the canned hunt south of Cheyenne is alot cheaper! I couldnt live myself if I did that. Brian

If the game is not free ranged I will not hunt it.
I am blessed with how many free range animals we have here in Saskatchewan  Unfortunately the buffalo is not one of them.

PS. I have eaten it on a number of occasions & it is some of the finest table fare that I have had the privilege of tasting :)

Blessings,
Dan

I know this will come as a shock to everyone here  but if I were to hunt buff'ler, I would want to get a new rifle... something in a Sharps, I think. Probably trade in my half-ton pickup on an F350, too.

Now Kurt who could blame a guy for that?  That would be the perfect occasion for a new rifle. My buddy I hunt with a lot happens to have two that would be great. One is an old Rolling Block 45-70 that a gunsmith buddy made up for him. The second is a Marlin cowboy model (long barrel) in 45-70 also.

Now that would be tolerable...

would hafta carry my 458 socom AR loaded with 405 gr bullets, it would be way cool, but then again the 12" SSK 375 JDJ contendor would be tempting to take along.

I've been applying for years for a bison tag with no luck yet. Hopefully that will change soon and when it does, I'll probably use my 300 RUM and a 200gr pill of some kind.

Now Kurt if you saw that 45-70 rolling block, you would swoon! It is absolutely gorgeous. He shot this antelope buck with it at about 150 yards.

I have a Shiloh sharps rifle in 45/70, that I use loaded with 70 grains of black-powder and a cast lead bullet. It will be used for such a hunt, hopefully in the near future, for a bison.
