Hunter Impaled on Antler of an Elk He Had Just Killed

Yes, caution is in order. I hunt some steep country, and twice I've nearly been jabbed by mule deer antlers while dragging my buck downhill!

Knew a guy that took a mule deer point right in the ham!

Same situation as you described...dragging down hill and slipped.

I saw some where else where a hunter was dressing out his Elk and slipped and fell on an antler impaling himself.
Know one ever said that hunting was a safe sport. Almost anything can happen to you.

A number of years ago I handled a insurance claim on a fellow that owned a farm south of Regina. That Whitetail hunting season he was pulling a buck out of the back of his 1/2ton when he slipped & landing on the antlers. The Antler pierced him rupturing the main artery in his left leg & the fellow bled out in his shed :(.

Blessings,
Dan

You gotta watch the almost dead ones too!

One of the owners of the local sporting goods store got hammered by his "dead" bull moose as he approached the animal from the front. Sent him flying bruised and a little bloodied! Sore for a couple of weeks. Do not recall if he received any broken ribs.

Always approach a downed animal from the back and from behind the backside. Those moose can give a powerful kick as they die too!
