Well so far we've chased the most numbers of elk and several mule deer around the peaks of Stanley and Challis Idaho for about 9 days that I've encountered in about 5 years, despite the wolves. We've been close enough to hear the bugles around us at a hundred yards or so but there have always been other hunters strolling through to ruin the set up. We stalked the highest and best spot in the area to be outwitted by ourselves. Even with the hour wait before we walked in the elk moved out.
We saw a nice buck and about 7 does about an hour and a half before shooting time (twice)!
The gist of it is that JDMAG and I have enjoyed some of the most beautiful country in the U.S. and have been in the thick of the animals the whole time.
JDMAG bought a cool hat and I got a camo/cowboy hat and we've pretty much kept up a harrasing banter about that in between times.
So far it's been elk 2 hunters 0 deer 1 hunters 1.
So long from Idaho.

The best trip I've had Bar none! despite his hat and "Fat, Lithargic" bullets!

It is indeed great just to be able to be in the mountains. You fellows are in some great country. There is something magical about hearing the bugle of an elk nearby.

That is indeed some lovely country. It stretches a man's soul to walk in such areas.

As a want a be preacher I know that envy is a sin and I have to confess that I am envious
What beautiful photographs you are truly walking in God's country.

Blessings,
Dan

Yep, pretty country. They only make country like that for the post cards!! Hope ya had a great time!! CL

Those are awesome pictures. Looks like it was a great hunt. Idaho grabs ahold of you and will not let go. I am beside myself trying to get out there and hunt something. Hopefully, upon the Marine Corps retirement, I will have a chance to stake claim to some part of it. It is God's country. Scotty

Beautiful country. You fellas are living the dream!
