Well so far we've chased the most numbers of elk and several mule deer around the peaks of Stanley and Challis Idaho for about 9 days that I've encountered in about 5 years, despite the wolves. We've been close enough to hear the bugles around us at a hundred yards or so but there have always been other hunters strolling through to ruin the set up. We stalked the highest and best spot in the area to be outwitted by ourselves. Even with the hour wait before we walked in the elk moved out.
We saw a nice buck and about 7 does about an hour and a half before shooting time (twice)!
The gist of it is that JDMAG and I have enjoyed some of the most beautiful country in the U.S. and have been in the thick of the animals the whole time.
JDMAG bought a cool hat and I got a camo/cowboy hat and we've pretty much kept up a harrasing banter about that in between times.
So far it's been elk 2 hunters 0 deer 1 hunters 1.
So long from Idaho.
