My hunting partner and i just got back from a succesful Idaho Whitetail hunt. We left from oregon on friday the 23rd of November and started hunting Saturday. We werent seeing much until the snow fell on monday night. Tuesday morning my partner scored on a 5x4 and we packed his out approx. 1 mile.
On Wednesday I spoted a heavy 4x4 on a hillside runing does but was 700 yards out. Went back on Thursday and we found the buck agin but was 600 yards and in brush. We worked around the top of the canyon but was unable to get a closer shot.
Went back on Friday the last day to hunt and agin found the buck, this time he was lower on the ridge and in the open at 550 yards. Before we could set up on him he bedded in a small timber patch. I set up my pack and made a rest and waited . With the wind chill temp was 7 degrees. thank god for wool. After about an hour the buck got up and stood broadside the wind had quit and my rest was rock steady. I was shootng a sako in 270 weatherby scope with leoupold 3x9 with primer custom redicle. I held the 500 dot on the top of his back touched the trigger and watched him drop in his tracks. I shot him at 1:00 and we got him to the truck at 5:00 The pack out was 1.6 miles.

Seems like you were a very persistent and skilled hunter! Congratulations! Nice shooting Tex.

Would love to see some pics and hear the general area you're hunting. We make the trek from Oregon to hunt near Grangeville each year, and really enjoy the country. This year we came home with a fairly nice 3X3 with eye guards, and another small buck. Glad to hear your trip was succesful!

I was shooting 140 grain Nosler bt. This gun shoots them very well .33 at 100 yards we also shoot out to 700 yards during the summer . We use hunting type rests.
The area we hunt is in the couer d lane area. My son lives there and makes for a very nice camp. I will post pictures as soon as my son e mails
them to me.
