If you had to choose IMR 4895 or Varget for .243

I have been trying loads in my new .243 Rem sps varmint and I'm finding very little differance between IMR 4895 and Varget powders, what choice would you make between the two? Is one better under varying temps? I will be shooting these loads on coyote control from spring through the summer. 80 grain nosler bal tips are the bullets. Thanks.

Its been a few years since I had a 243 Win so I really can't comment on Varget. I used to load the 70 gr BT with 39.0 grs IMR4895 and had excellent accuracy. In fact, there were several fellas at the gun club who shot the exact same load with sub MOA accuracy. We all used this load for summer and winter leagues and everyone was happy.

I also used 42.0 grs of IMR4350 for 95 gr and 100 gr loads with sub MOA accuracy. This load was safe in my M70 XTR but work up carefully.

As for your load development with the 80 gr BT, I'd look at Varget, IMR4895, IMR4350, and RL19. If you decide on the 70 gr BT, go with IMR4895.

Thanks I have all 3 minus RL19, I have some 4350 rounds loaded and ready to try as well, but what I have shot so far no real differance in groups between 38 grains of IMR 4895 and 38 of Varget with the 80, with a 1-9 1/8 twist I'm thinking my low bullet choice is the 80 and I don't mind that. I'm getting sub inch with both powders.

I have some 90 gr swift scirocco's loaded for deer hunting, I have just been working on my coyote loads, but I have them loaded with IMR 4350, my 25-06 loves that powder with 110 accubonds!

Varget has worked very well for me with 70-80grn bullets. RL-19 was great with 90grn BT's and Speer Hot-Core. IMR7828 was very shocking with 100grn bullets. It was amazing how low the ES was and how consistent the accuracy was as well. I do trust Varget in extreme temperatures over IMR vesions even though Hodgdon powders have not been the best producers for any of my rifle loads.

H4350 is my choice with 70gr on up in my 6mmAI and also in my .243 using 95-10gr. Also used heavily in my 257 Bob and Improved bob..
