These are the only powders I can find, so I bought them.
The 4350s are hard to find.

Those are both fine powders to use with the 30-06. They will provide you with a good starting place for your work with the cartridge.

I used to use 4350 and I went to 4064for my 100 gr bullets . Faster and just as accurate. 3 grains less powder. Me likes. CL

You have 2 good powders to start with. They will do good with the 150-165 bullets. Finding 4350 is very hard right now, I have been looking for a year and so far have found 1 pound.

You are off to a good start. Keep asking questions and you will be shooting tiny groups in no time.

What bullet are you planning on trying?

You can order an 8 lbs jug of IMR 4350 from Cabelas right now, but you'd have to byte the bullet on a hazmat fee.

I think you should be good for now, at least to get your feet wet.

The powder IMR 4064 was developed for loading the .30-06 along with Army Natick Labs and the 152 grain M1 bullet. It should give you great results.

Attended our local gunshow this weekend and found quite a bit of IMR4350, 4064, a lot of alliant powders, all one pounders. No pistol powder at all. Two gun shows ago I found an 8LB can of 800X which will serve as pistol fodder for awhile. For whatever reason pistol powder is in short supply. Talking to my local Bass Pro shop salesman it would seem that hoarding is still going on as when powder shipments come in the bulk of powder is gone within an hour.

I like the scirocco in 150 gr , I took a doe at 80 yards and she was DRT and it left a baseball sized exit, plowed through both shoulders.
If the accubonds expands well I'll go with them, only if they group well. I bought some 165 gr ABs , but I haven't shot them yet to see if they group.

Were these loads that someone built for you, Ray? The Scirocco is a fine bullet that will perform quite well on game. The AccuBond is equally good on game.

Factory is all I have shot so far.
I measured the ogive to bolt on two factory rounds , sciroccos are .090" from the lands and power shok is
.048" from the lands.
Shoks being tangent and sciroccos being secant.
These are the only ones that group well so far with my rifle.

When you guys run out of powder and buy more , do you have to start over and work back up with a different lot ?

It is a wise idea to work up any time any component is changed--lot number for powder, cases, bullets, primers. Especially powders, but in certain instances with all components, can deliver unwelcome surprises.

I used to use H414 extensively in my .30-06.

Its a good powder, basically W760 which is what Remington and Winchester use in their factory loads.

Never used it with 180s but with the 150s and 165s it worked just fine. It meters very well being a spherical. The 4064 loads I have tried in my .30-06 seem on the lower end of pressure and therefore slower even in my 24" barrel but is a good powder nonetheless. It beats having no powder at all by a long shot!

4350 has been tough to find near where I am as well. When you find it buy it, you may be a long while finding more.
