Is a Savage 111 action strong enough to handle an Ultra Mag?

Hello,

I've got a savage 111 that I have a 264 barrel on at the moment, it is a great little rig, but I'd like to get another barrel or two to switch between. Basically to allow me to have a full complement of calibers to hunt with without costing a small fortune. I was wondering if the Savage small shank action will handle a 338 RUM or Edge. Just a thought since the 338 I ordered in March never got here, yet anyway. If it will handle these intense rounds I would be ordering a barrel or two(pending approval from wife :wink: )

Savage has offered the 300 RUM so it shouldn't be a problem.

Good action, strong, but as all rifles, do not load above recommended Max levels and you will not have ejection problems.

This is a 300 RUM Savage 116 BVss their custom shop build me. So yes they can handle the truth! ehhh I mean pressure

Hey Pop,

A general question since you brought up the Savage custom shop.....how much more is a Savage custom shop rifle than a stock Savage rifle? Will they pretty much build you what you want...within reason of course?
