Here is Jordan's (my grandson) new rifle a Ruger Mk II 22-250 with a Buckmaster scope. A friend of mine here in Picayune gave this to me for Jordan. I am trading my 375Wby for a 257Wby Accumark and Leupold VXIII because Africa is out and even my job at this point. So I will give this 257Accumark to Jordan when he is 14yrs old if he learns to shoot and reload this 22-250 (and I have no doubt he will).

I will let him use my 22-250 load for the rest of this deer season which is a 53gr TSX in front of 39gr H380 and it will drop the deer we have in South Mississippi with no trouble at all. I will have him keep his shots with in 75-100yds until his strength and skill improve and he can prove to me he can hit past 100yds with consistency.

Here is a picture of his rifle and the round he will be using. I called his mother this morning and told her to tell him since she teaches in the school system he is in and she called back and said he was very excited. He and I will hunt with this over the Christmas holiday's.

You`re trading your 375 Wby??? You just got that thing not too long ago!

You can still own a .375 without going to Africa! Who says you have to go to Africa?? We have big bears and bison over here!! When your grandson turns 14, let him borrow your `06 or get him a 257 at that point. I started at 9 years old bench shooting with a 30-06!

Keep that 375!!!.. :x :x :x :x

Nope, I am not going to keep the 375Wby. I will not be using it and if it is real big and I am going to have to hunt it up close I will use my 450 Marlin. If it is real big and the terrain is open I will use my 300Wby and 180gr TSX. It is time to economize and set Jordan up for the future with the 257Wby Accumark which I might not be able to get him something that nice in 3yrs. I have thought about it and I am really going to be down sizing my life, activities and expenditures. I have already made the choice and can live with it. Thank you for the concerns and thinking enough of me to express your opinions. :)

Well! It looks as though you gave this some very serious thought.

Are you getting some cash along with that 257 Accumark or is it a straight up trade? Seems to me you should get the 257 along with some extra green stuff!

I am getting the rifle and a very expensive scope for my rifle. The Accumark and scope come very close to my asking price and it was only fired at two different times so I feel it is a fair exchange but more important it is not a real heavy recoil cartridge for Jordan later on to have to deal with plus it will reach out there and has such a flat trajectory that it will be easier to hit the kill zone.

If someday things get better and you get the urge to scale things up a little with owning a 375, you certainly don`t need to spend that kind of money, like what you did on that 375 Wby, to own a 375!

Take a look in the Jan `09 issue of "Rifle" magazine. Without giving the title away, there is an interesting article by Phil Shoemaker. In that article he makes a very interesting prediction! From others I`ve read, he`s not the only one either, with those same sentiments.

Things can always change and are subject to change. In the case of another 375? Maybe someday you can have your cake and eat it too??!!!

What you said in the 3rd post up there makes good sense right now. I am currently doing the same. I just gave my son my 300 winni because it had a break, and he actually wanted it more than a new one! So now I need a new one. Traded my 22-250. I also just found out that my company laid of 90+ yesterday, and 4 of those were in my group. AndI'll be part of a furlough starting the 22 of this month. My group is the one that travels around the country fixing the machinery, so that was a shock to all of us. Hopefully, things will pickup after the first of the year. But right now, I have to figure out a way to payoff my new 7Mag! looks like I'll be doing some contracting over Christmas break.
Good luck Bullet, and I hope your Grandson likes his new toy!

Nice gun! and you're talented with them pictures bullet!

..........I don`t know which page....... Yesterday, I received a phone call from a friend in the east, who by chance ran across that magazine. As do I, he also owns the M77 Ruger Alaskan. On his last visit out here to So. Cal and after some range time, he so much liked my Alaskan, that he bought one for himself....Damn copycat!

That article is about the 375 Ruger by Phil Shoemaker. In there, Shoemaker made the prediction (para-phrasing from what I was told to me by my friend); "that given enough time, the 375 Ruger might do to the 375 H&H, what the 300 Win. Mag did do to the 300 H&H." Whether that happens or not, remains to be seen years down the road.

What Ruger and Hornady started, others have already picked up on and more than likely others will follow. For `09, Legacy Sports is in the process of chambering the .375 Ruger in their Howa M1500 (MSRP $589). CZ has a 375 Ruger plastered on the front cover of my `08 Hodgdon Reloading magazine. This cartridge offers better ballistics than the H&H, a better and more efficient case design than the H&H and is a lesser expensive rifle to buy in most cases, if not all cases, than are 375 H&H rifles.

Older "traditions" or the word "traditional" have great meaning when it comes to personal values, morals, principles, history, housing and building architecture styling, furniture design, etc. etc........But in a rifle cartridge? Foooey! That`s when I buck tradition and go with 21st century design technology and efficiency!

If "Bullet" sees himself clear someday to own a 375, there is now and will be by then, better, more efficient and lesser expensive alternatives from the various rifle makers.

On the other hand though, my gunsmith told me several weeks ago, that he has already filled several and has taken three new orders for custom built rifles chambered in? Take a good guess!

BTW!....... Hornady has had on-going marketing programs, with many approvals already granted and more approvals to come, for worldwide distribution of their factory ammo, Africa included. Like the 375 Ruger, the new .416 Ruger, which will be introduced in early `09, will be well on its way and marketed in the same fashion. Any notions or worrys about the lack of factory ammo availability in Africa for the .375 Ruger should now or soon be dismissed.

Thanks JDMAG, and POP, he really likes it, he has seen it now and is ready to hunt.

That will work just great for him. I have taken several does for the freezer using my 22-250 and the 53 gr. TSX.

I can't wait to see the pics and the smiles on your faces!

Good Hunting,

Bob

Thanks Bob, I will show him what a 22-250 did with the 53gr TSX and that is one cool looking Savage. Thanks again
