I just signed my wife, son, and self up for next years draw hunts. It might turn into a 150 dollar donation but on the off chance that we draw something its going to be well worth it. we put in for caribou, moose, and sheep hunts. I’m hoping that my son can draw a good cow moose hunt.

Man, we're all pulling for you. Those will be great hunts for each of you. Upping the odds sounds pretty smart to me.

A cow moose hunt sounds like a great hunt for a young lad!

I know I can't wait for a cow elk hunt for my daughter.

Best of luck!

I keep entering Washington's draws for good tags, for me and my son. Someday we may draw a worthwhile tag again! There's always hope.

I am not sure that I will live that long, but I keep wasting my money anyway. For us Wyoming hunters the draw will open next month for NR elk. I have looked at a couple of different units and am now waiting on maps to check land status and wilderness boundaries. (In Wyoming you are required to have a guide to hunt in Wilderness).

Good luck Bear. I just put in for over 20 of them myself between the ones for my girlfriend and I. And you're right, it does just seem to be a donation every year for me. But like they say you can't win if you don't play. Hope to see you in the field.

Good luck in the draws! Its that time of year again, and best of luck to all. I been over all my choices and I got my $ saved-up for MT and WYO apps.

Yes, I'll be putting in for Wyoming mule deer & antelope tags again too... Usually get drawn for the areas I hunt in Wyoming. Haven't taken any huge trophy elk, mule deer, or pronghorn, but almost always have a good hunt and a good trip.

Guys - if you aren't clued in on the whole "western big game" tag game - it's time to do your research and start putting in for your tags as soon as possible! Somebody already mentioned that Wyoming wants non-resident elk applications in January - which is normal for that tag, and remember to line up an outfitter/guide if you're going to hunt the "Wilderness" areas too.

Each state has their own Fish & Wildlife department, their own regulations, their own tags & draw systems. Figure out where and when you want to hunt and apply as soon as you can. There are some "over the counter" tags available too, but a lot of the better tags take some kind of a lottery type drawing. Now is the time to be doing this, if you want to hunt "out west" next fall.

Great info. Pretty exciting stuff and I am not even close to done hunting this Fall, yet..

A point to remember even if you're not interested in hunting out west next fall, is Preference Points. In some state areas, it takes a few Points to draw the tags. So start getting those points, in the areas you may want to hunt in, in the future. As has been said, do your homework!
