Kenetrek Customer Service was good to work with when it came to finding the boots that I needed for my Montana Elk/Mule Deer hunt last fall. I should have looked closer at their catalog.
Upon delivery I found their pac boots, which were recommended by my outfitter, to be too narrow so went to the Mountain Extreme in size 12 wide. I put about 5 miles, logged on my GPS, on them hiking around upstate NY before heading to Montana and they held up fine..no blisters or sores. Hope that I do not need to buy another pair of hunting boots soon.
Scotty,
The new replacement boots look like very SERIOUS BOOTS! Glad to see they stepped to the plate for you. It's what I would have expected considering the investment.
I have Danner Boots, have had them for 10 years, specifically used for Elk hunting. They have never failed me.
I'm a Kenetrek mountain extreme fan. I have worn Danner boots for close to fifty years. I wore their duty boots every day of my professional career as well. This fall when I got back from Alaska I had had it with my Danner hunting boots. I had read a few reports on the Kenetrek and decided to give them a try. The only negative feedback I had heard was they needed to be thoroughly broken in. I spent about two weeks working my shorthair every day and then headed into the north cascades for deer hunting. After a couple days I did get one hot spot on my heal while packing a dang deer out of a hole that was way too deep and far from the trail. Even so I loved the boots. By the time elk season rolled in the boots were fitting great. We hunt the breaks of the south fork of the Walla Walla in Oregon. It's rough, really rough but huntable ground. The boots were so comfortable I was bragging on the Garmin how good my feet felt. Most nights I didn't take them off back at camp until I was getting in my sleeping bag. I even retired my chukar and pheasant hunting boots in favor of the Kenetreks.
I know not every one will like these boots, b u t if you need a new pair you owe it to yourself to try them. I've never worn anything that compares. Best money I ever spent.
Don
David, that sounds like me when I fell down a snow covered fir tree over 15 feet to the ground on snow shoes. Talk about stuck! Fortunately we were cutting lines and there were two of us, otherwise I would still be there.
My feet are small too (9-1/2) but I am not as tall as you, I was 5'11" when I was younger.
