After feeding all of the stock this morning, I took a little drive in the back country. I drove up to our western boundary fence just in time to catch a herd of about 75 head of elk. This cow was in the rear.

Running left to right towards the neighbors fence at between 250-275 yards I led about half an elk and fired. Miss.

That kicked the whole herd up to speed. The second shot I led about an elk and fired. Hit. Down she went but still held her head up prominently. A third shot placed behind the shoulder put her down for good. I snapped a few pictures and validated my tag. She is going to be good eating.

With the .300 WSM I scored two hits, the first one too far back, the second hit right on the money. Both of the factory loaded 150 grain Core-Lokt Tipped bullets exited, much to my surprise.

Congratulations, she's going to make some fine eating! Good report on the 150 Tipped Core lock bullets, surprised they exited too.
Well I stand corrected. Today when I was cutting her up I found that last bullet in the offside shoulder. It weighed 93 grains which is 62% retention. Not bad performance at all!
