I bought a Remington Model Seven in 22-250. It's very lightweight and I'm looking to put a lighter weight scope on it. I'll only use it in the daytime and 300 yards or less on groundhogs and coyotes. But I want a ranging reticle just in case. No adjustable objective. Money to spend is around $500.

Here's some I've narrowed down to:

Leupold VX-3 3.5-10x40 Boone & Crockett Reticle 13oz
Leupold Mark 2 Tactical Long Range Reticle 12.5oz

Leupold VX-2 3-9x40 Long Range Reticle 12oz
Sightron S2 BigSky 3-12x42 Mildot 13.9oz

I'm very interested in the Mark 2 Tactical (except it has 1/2 moa adjustments) and then the VX-3.

Thanks guys

If you're using it on medium to large varmints, consider the varmint hunters reticle instead of the B&C, if you go with the Leupold. If you want a very simple reticle, on a good scope, you should look at the Bushnell Elite 3200 in either 3-9x40 or 4-12x40 with the Ballistic Reticle. This reticle has a normal duplex crosshair, and then has cross-lines underneath the crosshair, each spaced 3moa apart. Each of these lines is also as wide left and right as it is below the crosshair, ie - the line 3moa below stretches 3moa to the left and 3moa to the right of the lower stanchion, and the 6moa line goes out 6moa on either side, etc. What this does is allow you (with some practice) to use the lower cross-lines for sighting at distance, but also use the various widths to correct for windage to some degree. I have one on my 270Wby, and it's really too flat shooting a cartridge to take full advantage of the reticle. I may move it to my 8x57, where all four lines would line up nearly exactly at 300, 400, 450, and 500yds if the crosshairs were on at 200. I don't think I'd take a shot that long with that rifle, though, so maybe I'll leave it where it is. Anyway, the scope reticle instruction booklet can be seen here:

I really like mine, and the scope overall is bright and clear. You should be able to find the 3-9x40 for about $250-275 with the ballistic reticle, and the 4-12x40 runs about $350, but I've seen it as cheap as $335 out the door. I should have bought that one...

+1 on the Mark2 out of the choices you presented.....

On the othere side of that coin... if your only going out to 300 yds there wouldn't be anything wrong with a fixed power.
I have a straight 12X Leupold on my 22-250.... with a good rest p-dogs @ 300 taste like chicken.
