Want to try some lighter loads for a new project I am doing an article on building a youth hunting rifle
Getting a Browning Micro Hunter 308 in

I have some 150 ABs and Bill Wilson told me they are very effective on hogs at 2300FPS out an 11" SBR 30AR project he's working on
That's basically 30/30 levels...

I have been searching the net and have read Hodgdon's youth load data sheet using H4895

Just curious if anyone has developed a similar load successfully

thanks

Theres a guy over at 24 hour campfire reloading chatrooms by the name of Seafire. If you post there he will get back to you. He is a guru on light loads for many calibers. Otherwise I would highly recomend start loads of re7 and I3031 as being a great place to start. There is also a powder called trailboss out now from IMR. It is a fast burning but very bulky powder that fills the case on something like a 308 with only about 16 grains. I've played with 110 v maxes in my 308 with this powder and got 1" groups at 100 yds at about 1600fps. There is absolutely no kick with this load and would be a great way to start any kid who hasn't fired a centerfire rifle. It's simply like shooting a 22 mag.

Thanks
I should have mentioned he's been shooting a 243 for a few years now
started with a 223 with he was 7, shot his first deer at 9 and at 10 I gave him my old Sako 243

Been shooting an 85g Barnes at 3280 FPS but I want to try a different approach with a 308 and reduced loads with either a 125 at 25-2600 FPS or a 150 at 23-2400

Average shot is 75-125 yards, so, he certainly doesn't need the barn burner 243 load
We hunt both hogs and deer, so, thinking more of a 30/30 approach with a slower/bigger bullet and not "needing" a barnes should he hit one in the shoulder at close range (even though he's taught for behind the ear)

He's also got 2 younger siblings coming up behind him anxious to hunt :)

Been compiling load data...
should be fun
