All bullets and bullet weights achieved the velocities recorded and the accuracy posted, using IMR7828, Weatherby brass, Rem 9 1/2M primers.

Powders tried, H4831, H4350, IMR4350, H380, RL-25 and RL-22

Mike,

Nice job with some impressive loads for the big 340 Wby.

Yes, it turned out good, now only have to take a hunting trip.

If I had a "boomer" that shot like that I wouldn't have a reason to go back to the range anymore.....bad problem.

Mike:
good work man....

but in all truth...............
should I say it????????????

that 2 in 1 hole and 1 away would drive me bananas.

Especially since it seems more prevalent in the heavier (and more useful) for the 340 weights.

Mike,

Try adjusting your COL to shrink the group.

When you have two shots touching and the third one out, seat the bullet deeper. Adjust your seating die in deeper 1/4 turn and reshoot. It might take several tries but your group will come in.

I know what you are trying to get me to do   Of course it bugs me, especially when I felt my second shot was my fault. IT IS DRIVING ME CRAZY!!! But I am trying to reserve my supplies at the moment. I know it is more useful in the heavier weights only 15% of the time considering the game I hunt. I will continue to play with it but the 200 SST will do most of my work down here on these smaller deer and it is more than enough for hogs and coyote. I will save the big loads for out west and Africa (Lord Willing)

don't worry I have other rifles for the range to play with, but the next venture is to shoot it a long distances which will take place in about three weeks or so. :)

I am going to do just that, have already decided to adjust the depth, I believe you are right.

Very good results Bullet.
Very respectable groups and velocities.

It is not a target rifle but I am so satisfied with this rifle and cartridge because it likes pretty much what I feed it. That says a whole lot. I really like this one better than any I have owned along with my 358win. Two very consistent rifles and lots of fun to shoot.

Great shooting Mike, looks like very near 338UM speeds, and very accurate loads. I would think you would be set with your 358 and 340 for a two rifle combo. That is some excellent load work. Can't wait to hear how those little SST's bang deer down! Scotty

Thanks beretzs, I can't wait to shoot deer with those SST's either. They have a velocity rating of 2000fps to 3300fps and that fits in well with what I want to use them for. I don't think I would call 200grs little but I know what you mean as apposed to the 250 and 275gr bullets my 340Wby can push.

You kinda make me wanna make a lighter load for my 338 also. I am not sure if I am going to go with a 200 or 225gr bullet again. The 225gr Accubonds shot very well, but I may try something a little less expensive, for just busting deer and general shooting. Scotty

Scotty,

look at factory seconds, 200 gr AB.

I have been keeping my eye out for seconds in the 180's or 200's Accubonds. I don't really want to pay the full price for them, and I haven't seen anything new on BIVWAK in a month of Sundays. If I cannot get Nosler 2nds, I will try the 200gr SST or 225gr SST. I am not worried about it, still tuning my 275gr loads. Scotty
