Pressure set at 61K psi, which is above SAAMI standards. I believe this to be safe (it has proved to be so in my own rifles); but all loads should be worked up from a safe minimum.

My .280 Remington really liked IMR4350 with 140 gr. bullets and that's all I loaded in it. H4831SC also was tried and it worked very well also but I already had a great load with the IMR4350 so I just stayed with that.

I think the H4831SC and the IMR7828 would work very well. Lots of folks have had good success with the Reloder powders, but I personally haven't warmed up to them.

If it were mine, I'd probably start with 7828 or RL22.. Those two look pretty danged good with 150 PT's.

H4831SC should work pretty well too.

I reached 3010 FPS with IMR 7828SSC and the 150 gr. Nosler ABLR. The only problem was accuracy was lousy. FWIW, my two rifles in 7x57 don't like that bullet as well. :( I'll be giving the 150 gr. Partitions a go in all three rifles once I get over this bug that has laid me up since mid January. The part that hurts is the last few days have been perfect shooting weather.

After studying the QL data, I am going to start each powder load at about 50,000 psi. If I were to venture lower, I believe that I am likely to have increased shot-to-shot variations in pressure and velocity with the slower-burning powders.
Keith

Some of those powders look pretty compressed to reach max pressure. RL19 and RL17 look pretty good (just looking at the data). I didn't see any data for IMR 4350, but I'd image it would work fairly well.

57gn of Superformance with the 150 gn Sierra Game King was chronoed at 2975fps and bang flop results vs a large White tail. I know this is not a book load. However, it came through load work up in my bolt action 280 Rem and there were no problems. It was also able to make a 2.5" shot group @ 400 yards, so it is both accurate and lethal.

Horsethief isn't that .280 Remington a fantastic cartridge! It has to be one of the best rounds ever put in a rifle! Man I cannot wait to get that scope on my .280 AI! You guys are killing me here with all of this testing and talk about .280's!

Nice work David can't wait to see the AI across the horns this fall.

Still can't believe you haven't shot that thing. At least take her out and put something into some jugs. You don't need a scope for that. Besides you need a fired case for some QL estimates and to find the lands with the bullets your going to use.

Beautiful animals 6mm.

The weather - not so beaut in that first pic. :D

To the OP, wow a 150NPT at a safe 3000fps out of a 280.... that oughta do it!

I have finally got my hands on some 7mm 150gr pt blems from SPS. Anybody have a favorite recipe that they want to share?
Keith

Keith,

RL22 should work nicely in the 280 Rem. The 150 gr PT at 3000 fps is an awesome bullet.

Working with RL19 right now with the 140AB in my LSS .280. A little more tweaking and I think I'll have it right where I want it.

ReLoder 19 is a classic powder for the .280 Remington. Though my 280 LSS shoots 150s exceptionally well, all the .280s I've owned really shone with 139/140 grain bullets. Your load is looking a lot like mule deer (or whitetail, or elk, or...) in the freezer

I have found that the RL 22 is pretty much perfect in 26" barrels but in the 24" barrels I get better results with a tad faster powder like RL19 or RL17.

My best results have been with RL19 at speeds of 2925-2975 with 150 grain bullets. But also always get good results with IMR4831 in ANY 30-06 based case.

But like DrMike stated I have always had tad better accuracy in the .280 with 140 grain bullets.

My first test load with any .280 is loaded with 140PT's at 54 grains of either RL19 or IMR4831.
